Mission Nine: Buddha Temple
Retrieve the Jewel of Heaven!
Ganda
This mission continues an unsettling trend of having to fight a boss right at the start. Good thing he is probably the easiest enemy there is. Ganda really doesn’t like to move his position a lot. He doesn’t chase you much, so use this to your advantage. As soon as the fight starts gets some distance between the two of you and then load up your sticky bombs. Hit him with 5 of them and he will be done for in record time.
As you enter the mission, stay behind the first wall and waiting until the monk at the far end walks away. Here you can either use your blowgun to nail him or try and make the 100 miles dash to get behind him. After you take him out, there is another one directly to your left walking around in front of the temple. When both are taken care of, grapple up to the crawlspace above the red pillars.
Crawl through and somersault to the walkway where the basket head is patrolling. Take him out and jump back down. The monk at the far end might see his body, sometimes he does, and sometimes he doesn’t. Jump up and kill him and run down the walkway and around the corner. Head up the stairs, up the ramp, through the wood room and stop at the doorway on the other side. Directly across and down from you is another monk. Again, you have the choice of either taking him out with the blow gun, or making the 100 mile dash when he is turned. I would go for the blowgun approach here because there is another enemy to the right of that passageway that may hear the scuffle if you don’t get the drop on him.
Head over to that passageway after he is taken out with a double jump. In the room you just jumped over is another monk. Hug the wall and use your poison rice to lure him if you want the stealth kill. If not, you can just continue on down the passageway without bothering him. Also you can look down and see where he is and take him out first and then take out the basket head in the next hallway. After they are dead, head around the corner on the left you can see into a wide clearing. Jump over to the platform in front of you and wait. Look down and you will see a bear walking around. When the bear turns away, jump down and stealth kill him. You really don’t want the bear to notice you. He has 300 hit points, the highest in the entire game. You will want to stealth kill the bear as fast as you can and not let it get to far ahead of you. There is a clearing to the left with a Kenpo Bouzu patrolling who will come running over if he sees the bear’s body.
Grapple up twice to the wooden platform above you to grab an egg for health. Drop down and hide behind a pillar while you lure the monk with your trusty rice bowl. Head into the alcove he was guarding and grapple up to the left. Scamper down the tunnel until you come to a large room with a bridge spanning across the top above you and a platform out to the left of you. Diagonal double jump to the platform and run to the far wall. Turn around and grapple up while stay hanging on the edge. Wait for the monk to turn, climb up and kill him.
Next, jump across the gap you just climbed through. There are two directions you can go here. The path going straight has a really big pit and some tricky jumping which will lead you to your death if you mess it up. Although it also lets you find Ayame’s Dokuto swords. The path to the right is safer without the big pit, but also without the swords.
If you decide to go straight, hop across to the platform above the pit. Next jump across to the ledge on the right side. You will see a beam of wood ahead of you which you need to jump or grapple to. From here grapple over to the far edge and keep going back and forth from left side to the right side until you can see the platform below you. Jump down to the platform and enter the room. Grab the swords and grapple your way up back out of the room. Go to the left, to the end of the passage, back up on the top ledges and there will be a wooden pillar there. Grapple to the top of it and climb into the next room. From there grapple up and out of this room at the far end and you will exit beside the temple.
The path to the right is safer without the tricky jumps but takes a bit long and has more enemies along the way. Look far down the hallway on the right and you will see a monk patrolling there. Wait until he turns and walks away to make the mad dash down there to get him. Follow the passage around to a drop into a large room. At the far end will be a basket head walking back and forth. Toss a rice bowl down and have your way with him. Grapple up to the ledge on your left and there will be a boarded up entrance. Jump on top of the wall of boards and walk backwards to hang off it.
Drop down to the platform below holding the left trigger. When you land the chances of Stealth Killing both monks is very slim without using a spell to help you out, but it is still possible. Head through the crawlspace and grapple up the boards to a small room at the top. Grapple up and out the opening heading towards the side with boards lying across the corner. Once up top there are two monks patrolling up here. Time your attack on the first and closest monk so that the farthest one is out of sight. Using your rice here is also helpful. When both monks are taken care of, head down the alley way to the right. There is a hole in the floor on the left side of the alley which you won’t want to fall into. Turn right and enter the temple.
Once inside, grapple up and over the walkway. Stick close to the wall around the second corner while you toss out your rice for the monk walking towards you. Hop over the railing to your right after you are finished with him and toss your rice out for the monk straight ahead. When he is taken care of, head up the stairs to the fire burning at the base of the statue. Grapple up to the second row of planks and jump left. From here crouch and look up to the left to see a monk waking back and forth. Grapple over to his planks and stealth kill him. The head of the Buddha statue will be right across from you glowing bright red. A simple jump will get you there and end the mission.
Mission Ten: Limestone Caverns
Rescue Counsel Sekiya!
Start off heading to your immediate left and jumping up onto the tracks. Take out the guard walking in and out of the tunnel entrance on the left. Take him out and start your way up the tunnel on the left side. If you decide to hang a left at the next corner, you will enter a room with a ninja dog which just isn’t fun to deal with. Also it will lead to the same cavern that taking the right passage way does. The right passageway leads to easier stealth kills, so it is probably your best bet.
Around the first corner of the right tunnel is a Kunoichi. Use the rice a roni trick and take her out. Head up the ramp and stop about halfway while crouching. You will see a Red Jonin standing on the other side of a bottom less pit right in front of you. Wait until he turns then double jump over the pit and stealth kill him from above. Directly around the corner is another Kunoichi on guard. Throw down your rice and judo chop her stealth style.
Keep going and you will come to a ledge that over looks a large cavern. Use the blowgun to kill the guard directly under you. Jump down and duck behind the rock sticking out of the ground. Toss out a rice bowl for the Kunoichi on guard there. Run over behind the wall on the left so the Kunoichi up top doesn’t spot you. Grapple up to the ledge where she is walking on and kill her. Follow it over to a drop that has blue lights in it. Run up the ramp and over the pit to take out a Kunoichi guard there. Follow the path around until you reach the platform outside of the tunnel. Take out the Kunoichi patrolling to the left of the entrance. Go over to the far right of the platform and drop off the edge. It is one really long drop so hold the left trigger when you hit the ground to not make noise. Run inside the doorway and you will get a cut scene about the counsel.
Head up the hallway towards where the Shikigami is. Hide behind the barrels on the left side of the passage. Make two left turns and you will get to the room where the dynamite is. Run back out to where you came from and head up the stairs. Drop down the far drop and climb up the boxes to grab some small heath items.
Continue to the doorway on the right to take out the ghost there. Keep going until you reach the plank walkways above the water. Crouch along and take out the Shikigami and dog along the path. Head to the far left corner and hide behind the column there until the guard turns around. Stealth him and grapple up to the wooden walkway above. Head down the tunnel until you come to a wide open cavern and a Kunoichi guard on the far side. Jump in the water holding the left trigger and sneak up on her. After a cut scene the boss fight starts.
Kagura
Ah Kagura and her wonderful pet. The best tactic I found was to start wailing on her pet wolf as soon as you can. He has pretty high amount of health with 200 compared to Kagura’s measly little 60 points but Kagura really doesn’t deal out much damage when you are ignoring her. Take out her Pooch quickly while dodging Kagura’s missile attacks. After the wolf has been taken care of turn your attention to Kagura and let her have it. She can be a pain in the ass as she teleports from one side of the pond to the other, but be persistent and aggressive and you will eventually hit her enough times to make her flop over.
Mission Eleven: Tenrai Fortress Part 1
Assassinate the Evil Tenrai!
To start off, go for a long jog straight ahead past the broken wood until you come to a log lying across a chasm. Cross the log halfway and jump off to your left on top of the roof below you. Grab the heath item up here. Next, take out the Blue Jonin in front of the house and quickly jumping back to the roof. A Red Jonin will come running over when he sees the body. Jump down and kill him when his Ki meter returns to green.
Head down the passage way to your left and jump on top of the rock ledge before you hit the corner. Take out the red Jonin down below. Keep going until you come to a large room with a wooden walkway extending from the entrance. Head right until you come to a set of rocks that can be used as stairs. About halfway up well be a Red Jonin, take him out and continue up and around the cavern.
At the far end will be a martial Arts Expert walking back and forth in front of some stairs. Wait until he walks around the corner to start running towards him. Run until you get to a stone block you can duck behind. Throw a rice bowl from here and crouch. When the Martial Arts man comes over take him out. Make your way up the stairs. There are three Martial Arts guys up here, so lure them out and kill them.
Keep going up another flight of stairs to take out one more martial arts guy hanging around. Grapple yourself up to the walkway above and stay hanging on the ledge. Wait until the Red Jonin starts his way up the stairs to rush up and stealth kill him.
Head up the stairs and go left, across the wooden bridge to the first corner. Toss out a bowl of rice for the Blue Jonin here. Follow the hallway, jumping up onto the ledge and dropping down into the large room. At the far end a dancing demon will walk out. Wait until he goes back around the corner to use your swords and take him out. Follow the passage taking out the Red Jonin until you come to a large open room with a dancing demon in the center.
Wait until he turns his back to make the mad dash at him. Quickly run off the platform when you kill him. There is a Red Jonin up to the left that is watching you. Go up where he is, taking him out and jumping down on to the wooden structure. Drop off the structure and wait behind the corner for the dancing demon in the next room to turn around. Kill him and start off towards the left side of the room past another wooden structure and up a set of stones to a wooden walkway. Crouch down and roll through the walkway until you get to the right of the Red Jonin. Jump up and kill him when he is turned away. Proceed down the hallway on the left. Take out the Martial Arts Expert in here and jump your way up to the ledge to the big doors.
Tatsumaru
One easy way to defeat Tatsumaru is to use 3 simple little words. “Wrath of Heaven”. Of course if you feel like doing it the difficult way, stay away from him until he charges you. He has a very quick charge attack so be ready to sidestep it and start wailing on him. Do not let him grab you. He has one mean attack when he grabs you. Knock him around after avoiding his attacks and he’ll fold faster than Superman on laundry day.
Mission Twelve: Tenrai Fortress Part 2
Assassinate the Evil Tenrai!
First thing to do in this level is to grapple upwards and to the right. Hang on the ledge and wait for the Martial Arts expert to turn around. Leap down the other side after you pull yourself up and kill him. There will be another Martial Arts expert at the far end of this hall, so run over to the wall on the left side and toss out a rice bowl.
Run around the left corner and dive behind the column on the right side of the room. Wait until the martial Arts man turns to run up to him. Run up the ramp and jump over the pit. Continue down this hall watching for the Red Jonin walking circles around the 4 pillars. After he is snuffed out, grapple up to the opening on the right hand side wall across from the hanging body. Run down the hallway peeking around each corner until you come to a dancing demon.
Hug the wall and equip your Yoto swords. Take him out when he turns around and be prepared for the two martial arts Expert around the corner at the end of the hall. When they are dealt with you will need to grapple from pillar to pillar in this room to get to the door way at the very top. The next room has a minor jumping puzzle where you need to cross two blocks floating over a bottomless pit. Of course if you just zip over it with your grapple it isn’t too much of a jumping anything.
Head straight along the walkway until you reach a notch in the wall. Duck in here and use you blow Dart to take out the jonin far over to your left. Keep running along the path and across the diagonal section. There are two ways you can go here. I find the left way the best way. Jump up the 3 ledges and take out the Blue Jonin while the Martial Arts guy, farther down the hall, is out of site. Next take him out and head towards the broken staircase at the far end of the room. From here you can see an opening to a red room on the right side wall. Grapple up to it and take a look around. Looks pretty cool eh?
Grapple up to the ledge above and head through the doorway. When you walk out the door, look directly down and there will be a Red Jonin. Kill him and look up. On one side you will see a gate across from you and a ledge high up to the right of it. Grapple up to that ledge and jump to the next ledge above it. Take out the Red Jonin walking around in here and run through taking a quick right until you see a room below you will a lot of lamps lining the walls. Keep on heading around the corners and down the dark hallway till you come to a doorway. Walking back and forth will be a Martial Art guy. Jump up and take him out when he isn’t watching. Stand in front to the big gate for the final showdown with Tenrai.
Tenrai
After the cut scene the showdown with Tenrai begins.
Run away and let him do his thing. He has a few attacks he likes to use but the main one is to have thorn like spikes come jutting out of the ground in your path. Handle Tenrai the same as you have handled all the bosses so far. Stay away from him until he attacks and then run in and nail him with a combo or two and run away again.
After you deal him a hand full of hurt another cut scene starts and a meaner greener Tenrai appears. This time around you want to stay away from him when he shoots out a poisonous gas cloud and when he dives and swipes at you. Keep running in circles around him. Stop for a second until he starts to attack, then run a half circle back towards him and attack. Keep this up but be very careful not to run into his poison cloud.
After you kill him that’s it! Watch the cut scene and the ending of the game. Depending on whether or not you fought Onikage in the Amagai Castle will determine which ending you get.
Tesshu Walkthrough
Mission one: Echigoya
Assassinate Nasu and Echigoya!
The Echigoya mission is pretty much the same this time through with only a few minor differences. First thing you will probably notice is that there are a lot more enemies walking around. Stick to the rooftops and pick out which guys you want to kill. Also using the beehive wouldn’t bee (*snicker*) a bad idea.
When you have had your fun with them, you can either take the crawl space in the building or head through the gate to get to the next area. If you take the gate, follow the passage way around till you come to the room with the platform above you. Grapple up and out of the hole and dash to the corner of the white building ahead of you. Roll out and kill the samurai walking towards you on your left. Grapple up to the roof of the white buildings and head right.
Keep going right, jumping over the rooftops until you land on the very large roof. When you are at the top of the roof head right and drop down to the first platform. Look down and there will be two samurai there guarding the main door. Drop down, kill them and head inside. When inside, head through the doors in front of you and make a quick left to the doors that are beside the doors you just came through. This is where Echigoya is. After the cut scene, take the key from him and head down the hallway to the right.
Follow it through until you come to the padlocked door in the long hallway. Use the key on it and drop down the gap. This should look pretty familiar. Drop down and take out the sleeping guard. Grapple up to the opening on the right and head up the stairs. Make your way down the hall, through the door on the right and through the crawlspace. Grapple up to the attic and continue through the doors. In the second room, take out the samurai hiding in the recess to the right. Keep going until you come to a drop.
Jump down and take out the samurai there and run into the next room. Drop down here through the beams to “fight” Nasu. A familiar cut scene starts and the mission ends.
Mission Two: Gohda Castle
Teach Rikimaru a lesson!
At the start of this mission you are under the floor boards by a large open area. Beside you is a guard who apparently “loves his job”. In the hallway beyond the large room are a few more guards. Getting out from under the walkway with out being spotted is tricky at best, not to mention fighting the battle that will ensue when said guards come running into help. I suggest turning around under the floor boards and going through the doorway to the left of where you start.
Take out the samurai here and head up the stairs. There a few samurai here, but nothing you can’t handle. Make your way down the hall on the right and take them out. Make your way through the room with the tree paintings and head down the stairs. To your left will be a room with a lone samurai. You will want to alleviate his breathing before making your way around the next corner to the right. Make the long run to get the guard down there before he turns around. Grab the health in this room and continue through the door. Take out the guard on the right before you make your way up the stairs.
Go through the room at the top of the stairs killing the guard and stopping at the next door. Take out the two guards in here and go through the door and down the hall. Take out the guard here in the hallway and the one in the room at the end. Scamper your way down the stairs to the golden hallways and your ready to square off with Rikimaru
Rikimaru
For fighting Rikimaru I would suggest using a spear that you should have picked up from a dead guard. Rikimaru is a tough customer to get close in on without getting some heavy damage taken yourself. Give him a few whacks while sidestepping his attacks. You only need to get a few shots in though. Once you get Rikimaru down to about ½ his health a cut scene will start and the mission will end.
Mission Three: Samurai Mansion
Execute the Rebellious Yuge!
Another super short mission but a tricky one. For this mission there are two types of enemies walking around and you may only kill one of them. The blue samurai guards cannot be killed. If you do kill them then the game is over for you. You may only kill the ronins who are dressed in gray robes. From the start of this mission, duck and roll forward. When the ronin below you turns, jump down and kill him. Grapple over to the building on the right and walk to the left across the roof. Hop down and climb over the fence there and enter the hole in the ground.
Grapple up and out of the hole but hang on the edge before you exit. There is a samurai guard to the right walking back and forth. Wait until he walks past you, coming towards the hole and not towards the building. When he does walk past, hop out and immediately run around the corner and up the stairs to kill the ronin walking there. Run around the corner and enter the building through the hall on the left. Immediately go to the right and there will be another gray ronin walking there. Sneak up on him and kill him. Go left around the corner and you will come to a door on the left that you can enter to trigger a scene.
Yuge
Yuge can be a tough customer to beat if he lands his sword swipe combos on you. He does have some high health and it takes awhile to whittle it down. His sword combos need to be blocked or at least stay out of their way them to survive. Wait until he has completed a swipe combo at you and then rush in and pummel him with your fists of fury. If fighting in the room is a little to close for comfort for you, then head outside and use the wide open area there to fight. After he is killed the mission ends.
Mission Four: Deserted Temple
Find the Author of the Message!
Although at the start of this mission it says that there are a lot of enemies around, there aren’t any more than there was when you went through it with Ayame. In fact this mission is exactly the same as Ayame’s except for the boss.
When you start, immediately roll forward and to the right. Jump on the barrel against the wall and jump and grab the edge of the cliff. There are three guards walking around here but they appear one at a time so they aren’t too difficult to take out. The first guard will go to the left and go down the ramp. Climb up and run after him to kill him from behind. Go back to where you were after you kill him and then another will appear in front of the temple and walk down the left side of it. Again run out and kill him. Go back to hanging off the cliff and the third and final guard here will appear on the far right. He’ll walk over to the middle and turn around. Kill him and make your way to the other side of the building.
Across from you will be a wooden walk way with a samurai walking back and forth on it. Either use the blow gun to take him out or roll until you are near it and then grapple to grab the edge of it. Shimmy over to get in position and wait for him to walk past. When he does, hop up and take him out. Go to the right and wait for the guard there to turn and walkway. Take him out when he does and continue to the next corner. There will be a samurai there at the far end that will stay down there. When he turns to walk up the hill, run after him the long run and take him out. When he’s dead, head to the right and grapple over the really large wooden doors. Dead ahead will be a guard walking around. Drop down and roll forward to the platform he is walking on.
Jump and grab the edge and pull yourself up when he turns around and kill him. Grapple your way up to the second floor of the building beside you and make your way along the right side of it. Take out the Ronin in front of it and enter for a scene.
Ronin’s
After the scene you need to fight a pretty lousy boss in the form of three ronin’s. Try to get them split up so that you are only taking them on one at a time and not all three at once. Also make sure that one doesn’t hit you from behind while you are fighting one in front. It is easy to get caught up in a flurry of attacks that will severely cut your life short. They aren’t any tougher than regular ronins however so fight them the same way you would a regular one. After they are all dead a scene starts to end the mission.
Mission Five: Buddha Temple
Rendezvous with Senkichi by the waterfall!
When the mission starts you are thrown into a battle with Ganda. Use the same tactics that you used with Ayame, except use the needles instead of sticky bombs. They don’t do nearly the same damage so depending on how many needles you have; you will probably have to give Ganda some old fashion fist loving. Nail him with some punches when he misses with his stick attack.
After you defeat him you will need to make your way out of the temple. Head across the wooden walkway to the door opening on the left. Walk down the hall when you enter and take out the basket head there. Drop down in to the room below and walk up to the wall to exit the temple. Drop down on the monk below and hop down the hole. Try not to hit the fire burning below when you land. Grab the health potion and crawl through the hole in the wall. Take out the basket head monk and head around the corner to the wood platform. Grapple up the ledge on your left and grapple up again to the top of the board on your right high above. Drop down and take out the Kenpo Bouzu in the next room.
Grapple up to the ledge and take out another bald monk in this passage. Hang a left and hop over the gap. Run ½ ways across the bridge and jump off to the platform below you to your right. Head down that passage and kill the monk there. Keep going along until you exit to the outside area. A cut scene will begin and the mission ends.
Mission Six: Limestone cavern
Escape from the Limestone Cavern!
This mission starts off where the dynamite task started for Ayame. You need to follow the map to grab your tools from various rooms and then make your way out via the circular water room where you used the dynamite. Follow the same paths that you did with Ayame and it will take you no time to complete this very short mission.
Start by taking out the samurai that is right in front of you. Head down that tunnel and make the long drop down. Continue to your right down the passage way where the council was help prisoner. Grab one of your tools from there. Continue through the passage getting the rest of you tools but be wary of the samurai here. There actually quite a number of them. Head up the stairs, run through the wood room and drop down on the wooden scaffolding.
Take out the ninja and Samurai here and drop down the next opening to the wooden planks above the water. Keep going to the far left of this cavern and grapple up the wooden walkway. Make your way down the tunnel to the water room and out the doorway where the wall was that you had Ayame blow up.
