Medkit – After guiding untold groups out of the city and through the woods I couldn’t tell you how vital medkits are. Though you can never use them to recover back to perfect health they do recover more of it the further injured you are. While using them you will be completely immobilized for a few seconds, so make sure someone is watching your back as you patch yourself together. Medkits are best used once you begin to move more slowly due to injuries, or when you know that you will need to be in your best shape to make it through the area ahead.
Pain Pills – For when you don’t have time to heal, pop some pills instead. Pain pills can be downed while on the run, making you feel a lot better than you actually are. The feeling fades however, so they are best used when either no medkits are around or you are too hurt to move quickly and need the boost.
(General survival tips are found scattered throughout the notebook, often hastily scribbled down. They cover a broad range of topics, from survivor formations to special tactics.)
• Always shut doors behind your group as you pass through them. They serve as an early warning system against anything coming up behind you, as you can hear the infected bashing them down a mile away. Of course, nothing is stopping you from cramming your shotgun barrel into the hole they make and unloading on them before they break through.
• Keep moving, at all costs. The longer you stick around in an area the more ammo you will burn through and the more likely a horde of infected will catch onto your scent.
• Pipe up when you see any infected that isn’t garden variety, and listen to the members of your group. Knowing when they are reloading or if they spot a special infected can be critical in order to fight them off.
• While moving through tight spaces sometimes it is worth it to ask the person in front to move while crouched so that those behind them can fire over their heads. If you don’t have the room to spread out you may as well have as many guns firing forward as possible.
• While crouched you are much more accurate with your weapons, saving you ammo and letting you take out infected at a greater distance.
• Never light a hunter on fire as it makes them even more dangerous. I once saw a man get pounced on by a flaming hunter, lighting them both on fire as the hunter ripped the man apart.
• If you find yourself unable to sneak around a witch throwing a molotov at her can cause her to initially run around in a panic as she burns. Take cover and by the time she puts herself out she will be much easier to deal with.
