Fallout 3: The Pitt Walkthrough and Achievement Guide
GameShark.com helps you navigate the wilds of Pittsburgh.

Once you arrive at the Pitt, prepare for a fight after Wernher starts speaking to the raiders. Once you get to the gate, Wernher will tell you that you're on your own. Ask him if you can sneak a weapon in and he'll give you the option of taking in a gun or a knife. Whatever you choose, it will be added to your inventory and will stay there once you lose your gear. You can also choose neither; however you'll still get a .32 pistol once you enter the Pitt proper. For now, make your way to the Pitt and enjoy your weapons while you still have them. You won't have them for long.

As you make your way towards the bridge, you'll find a large open cargo container to your right, just before a military truck. Enter the container to find a few stimpacks. As you approach the bridge, be wary of the Wildmen looking to ambush you from the abandoned house on the left. Sneaking with a Dart Gun can take care of them in short order, especially at night where you can catch at least one of them sleeping.

As you cross the bridge, be prepared to either move away from or disarm frag mines. Also, do not get too close to the water as you'll gain +2 rads a second just by looking at it. Certainly don't jump in it as you'll gain approximately 500 rads a second and be dead in no time. Yes, I did it just out of curiosity. Yes it hurt. A lot. The bridge is home to some vicious dogs too, so deal with them as you move to the other side. When you see what looks like scaffolding up above the bridge, check for the Raider guard up and to the left. Once you get to the other side of the bridge, some slaves will try and escape and they will detonate every mine around there, so don't go near any of them if you want to keep your limbs attached.

Once you get to the gate, open it and you'll meet Mex and have a friendly chat. At this point you can either lie and say you're an escaped slave (with or without your slave outfit equipped) or kill Mex and all of his buddies. The former method means that you lose all of your gear, but get into the Pitt proper. The latter means that you keep your gear and you get into the Pitt proper at which point you're given an epic ass whupping and then lose your gear. Either way you end up in the Pitt, with no gear, but with the Into the Pitt achievement and 20 points.

Unsafe Working Conditions - 20 pts

Upon entering the Pitt, you'll get this quest auto-magically so check your map and head over to meet up with Midea. Midea will ask you to meet her at her house. It's worth exploring around and opening everything you can as you can find several bloodpacks and stimpaks for your efforts. Head over to Midea's house once you've experienced as much local "flavor" as you can stand.

Midea will tell you that you have to "blend in" and to do that you'll have to take a job collecting steel ingots at the steelyard. To start your gainful employment, head over to the mill. Once at the mill, find Marco to get a weapon, a shiny new auto-axe. You may have to speak to him a couple of times to get the option of asking for a weapon. Persistence pays off! Curb your urge to go all Texas Chainsaw Massacre on the guards and instead go looking for Everett. Once you find Everett, follow him to the door to the steelyard where you'll be doing all of your ingot hunting. For quest purposes, you only need ten ingots, however for the Mill Worker achievements you'll need to find all 100. Luckily you'll get bonuses in the form of extra equipment from Everett for every 10 ingots you find, so it's worth taking the time to find all 100. A list of all 100 locations is later in this guide, under the section for the Mill Worker achievement. Either collect all 100 or just get the ten you need to continue.

Once you've returned all of the ingots, head back to Midea. She'll tell you that Ashur is going to be giving a speech in the courtyard as well as allow slaves to fight in the Pitt's arena. Win all of the fights and you get an audience with Ashur and an opportunity to grab the cure for the mutations affecting residents of the Pitt. After speaking to Midea, head out into the courtyard to listen to his speech. Midea will volunteer you for the fights, so once Ashur accepts your entry, head to Faydra in the Mill and speak to her.

Faydra will tell you about the rules of The Hole, which are pretty simple. You can take in whatever weapons you have on you and the goal is to kill the other fighters before they kill you, or before the barrels of radioactive waste kill you. Check the nearby locker for extra ammo or go about the town searching for whatever you feel will make you a better combatant. Faydra will remove your radiation poisoning after every round, so as long as you're not seriously hurt, it's not a bad idea to loot the bodies of your enemies for more weapons. Once you're ready to go, enter the arena.

Fight 1: Fight one is against three slaves all armed with automatic weapons. If they're all grouped together, an Auto-Axe plus VATS works great. Once done, leave the arena and then talk to Faydra when you're ready for fight number 2.

Fight 2: The Bear Brothers! Whee! No doubt given to these lunkheads for their teddy-bear like demeanor, the Bear Brothers are nothing to mess with. One sports Deathclaw gauntlets and one has a flamer. Neither is fun. Kill them, loot their corpses and then leave.
