You know, Megatron gets a bad rap. If I could transform into a tank at will and run roughshod over the galaxy, I can't say that I wouldn't do the same thing. I mean, they're giant robots that turn into giant vehicles. What's the fun of that if you can't conquer the galaxy? Megalomania aside, Transformers: War for Cybertron is the best Transformers game to come along in quite some time and a good 3rd person shooter to boot. The achievements are somewhat of a mixed bag with some easily achieved collection achievements mixed up with some multiplayer achievements that will have you blasting your fellow robots far into the foreseeable future.

The game has a fair number of missable achievements, one per chapter to be specific, and this isn't counting the collection stuff so be sure to read the guide before starting the various chapters so that you know what you should be looking out for. Luckily the game allows you replay individual chapters and even better, load up particular checkpoints from the chapters so that you can go back and nab whatever you missed. This also goes for the collection stuff so if you want to play through once for fun and then go back and clean up, knock yourself out. It is the right of every sentient achievement hunter to play how they want to and I'm not going to stop you even if I would crush you under my metallic heel.

Story Achievements

You can complete either of the campaigns in whatever order you want, however for narrative purposes it's better to start with the Decepticon campaign. Now, if you're Teh Hardcorz, feel free to start the game on Hard and do the whole thing that way. Along the way you'll get all of the difficulty achievements as the achievements do stack. If you're a dirty cheater like me, then complete the whole game on Easy (or Normal if you're feeling guilty) and then do only the last checkpoint of each chapter on Hard. You'll get the chapter marked as having been completed on Hard and you'll get the achievements for completing the campaigns on Hard. Now, this means that you'll still have to do every boss battle on Hard, however in the cases of fighting Omega Supreme and Trypticon, you'll only have to do half of the fight on Hard and that ain't bad. To help you in your cheating ways, the guide provides some basic strategies for completing every boss battle and emerging victorious, unearned achievements in tow. From the chapter select screen, every chapter is marked with a difficulty symbol so that you can see which ones you still need to knock out on whatever difficulty level you're going for.

Dark Awakening 10 pts

Complete Dark Energon on any difficulty.

This level doesn't have a final boss, just a fairly large fight and the first appearance of the chain gunners. If you're doing this one solo, let your AI partners take point as the enemy AI will target them and seeing how they can't die, they're great for drawing fire even if their guns are useless. This allows you to hang back and take potshots in vehicle mode. When you first start the level and have to drop down to the floor below, aim for the catwalk instead and grab the overshield. This fight is all about creeping forward and taking on the opposition one or two at a time. When the chaingun guys show up, transform and get the hell out of there to let the enemy AI focus on your partners and then you can safely take shots from elsewhere. Obviously this strategy is less effective when playing with friends unless you're trying to lose their friendship. Once the chaingunners are down, grab their weapons and make short work of the remaining forces. Eventually Megatron will do his Dark Energon thing and give the rest of the squad their birthright which may look pretty but otherwise is pretty dang useless.

Starscream's Brigade 10 pts

Complete Fuel of War on any difficulty.

This is one of the more annoying boss battles in the game. I highly recommend using humans as partners as you'll have to fly around a bunch in this fight and the AI will block your path causing you to stop and then die a painful death. When the fight starts, concentrate on taking out the missile turrets on the machine as it spins around, focusing on one at a time for maximum efficiency. If playing with other people, have each player focus on their own turret. If playing with the AI, enjoy doing all of the work. Once the turrets are dead the machine will shoot out giant, red lasers that will spin around the room so fly around the room and avoid the beams. Try, try, try to fly in the same direction as your squadmates as collisions will be all bad. Once the center of the guardian opens up have everyone pour all of their firepower into the center. The center will close back up and it's back to the turrets so do your best to take them all out on this path. Then it's back to the beams so do the circling thing again and once the center opens up, take out the center. Now is when things get fun, and by fun I mean not at all fun. Missles will fire from the floor so boost around and avoid them. Then the beams will come back, only this time there's more of them and they'll stop, spin and change direction. When the lenses spin they're about to switch things up, so be on your toes. You can destroy the glass panels that are close to the center of the guardian for health cubes. Once you've avoided crimson death enough the center will open up again and you can finally take out the core. Make your way out of the ceiling and say goodbye to the guardian.

The Fall of Iacon 10 pts

Complete Iacon Destroyed on any difficulty.

For this one you're going up against Zeta Prime and much like the last boss battle you'll have multiple stages that increase in both difficulty and annoyance. Remember when you were on your way here you saw a hapless Decepticon get crushed by a pillar shortly after a symbol appeared on the floor? Recognizing the symbol as a sign of impending smooshiness is very important in this fight. When the fight start, transform into vehicle mode and race around the room, avoiding the symbols on the floor and the subsequent column dropping. Once the columns stop falling, Zeta will create clones of himself for you to take out. They don't have any ranged attacks but there's a bunch of them and they have a ground pound attack of sorts that covers a large area so be careful even when attacking from a distance. Eventually Zeta's machine will open to expose a core, a common flaw in Autobot engineering apparently, and you can shoot it. This will piss ZP off something fierce and he'll send out more clones while still throwing out the occasional column so be careful as you're fighting. Once the core opens up shoot it some more. This will further anger ZP and he'll basically light the entire floor up with symbols and you'll have no choice but to transform and race around the room avoiding the columns. As with the last boss battle, it is imperative that you and your squadmates travel in the same direction as getting hit with a column is an instant trip back to the reload screen. Once you've cheated death enough the core will open back up and you can take Zeta Prime down once and for all.

The Secret of Omega Supreme 10 pts

Complete Death of Hope on any difficulty.

Turns out that shiny new key you wanted is a tracking beacon that calls forth a giant, city sized robot that wants nothing more than to wear you as a hat. There are a bunch of turrets around the area and you can get in them and tear up Omega but you're also open to attack and you don't want to be open to attack as Omega has about half a dozen ways to kill you and that's just on Fridays. Instead, detach a turret and then use the walls on the lower part of the area as cover. The turrets will respawn so just wait until they do and go grab another one. There are healing grenades in this area that also respawn so use them to heal yourself or your squad mates. Omega will hit you with his main beam attack as well as homing missiles so be mindful of what he's throwing at you so that you can dodge appropriately. When he calls in the Autobot fliers, take them out as they can do some serious damage if you let them stick around. Just keep whittling away at Omega and eventually he'll fall.
