Jillian Michaels 2010 (Wii)
-
Publisher: Majesco
-
Developer: Collision
-
Release Date: Fall 2009
-
What We Saw:
I was lured back to the Jillian Michaels area with the promise of a much-improved product over the first Jillian Michaels game. Literally – the first thing anyone said to me was “we have a new developer for this one”. 2010 is a fitness title featuring the Biggest Loser trainer, with a selection of 16 cardio and strength exercises hand-picked by Ms. Michaels herself. In my demo, I saw some step aerobics (using the Wii Balance Board) and heard all about the new “fitness resolutions” mode, which tracks your progress for up to six months.
-
What We Think:
Danielle: Well, it’s a massive improvement from the first Jillian Michaels game, but that’s not really saying much – the original was a hysterically bad piece of software. The demo looked much more responsive, and the graphics are worlds better – though the skimpy list of 16 exercises may get old after awhile. At least Jillian will yell at you more often in this one – the real reason any of her fans will buy this game. That and the fact that “pelvic thrusts” are among the 16 included activities.
Jumpgate Evolution (PC)

What We Saw:
Eve Online is one of the only options for quality space-flight in an MMO, but developing trade routes and managing corporate politics isn’t for everyone. While Jumpgate will let you delve into such aspects, twitch-based combat is the lifeblood of NetDevil’s universe. Three main nations, and numerous factions within, are all vying for control of territory and resources, and unlike many MMOs, this feature is more than an ethereal plot. Players are responsible for taking and defending strategic sectors. Over the course of 45 minutes, NetDevil took me on a galaxy-wide tour to see far-off planets, a handful of the 100s of ships, and a 150-player dogfight.
-
What We Think:
Brian: Jumpgate: Evolution was shaping up to be one of the most polished MMOs of E3. It had the variety of ships, the intense dogfights, and flight-stick support that I expected, but it also comes packed with Achievements that unlock new ships and a hefty does of exploration. Finding hidden areas and taking the paths less traveled is practically a hobby of mine in MMOs, so you can imagine my satisfaction when my host got a big grin on his face and boosted off to an unmarked outpost hidden within a group of asteroids. Although details were sketchy, I am very interested to know how NetDevil plans to address any overbearing imbalances among factions. Resources are an important part of Jumpgate’s economy, even with the emphasis on combat, and I don’t want to be the lone defender against an entire army.
