Katamari Forever (PS3)
-
Publisher: Namco Bandai
-
Developer: Namco
-
Release Date: TBD 2009
-
What We Saw:
The world of Katamari is sporting a whole new look, at least, if you so choose. The classic color-scheme, cel-shading, and a style inspired by western comics are the three options for altering Katamari’s appearance. Other than that, there’s not much of anything new to speak of. You still play as the Prince and you still roll up everything from squirrels to skyscrapers with your Katamari Ball. Even the levels are drawn from previous games, albeit with new items scattered about. It might be best to think of Katamari Forever as a best-of compilation, or a starting point for new fans.
-
What We Think:
Brian: The original Katamari Damacy was an addictive centerpiece of creativity that I still play to this day, but I never grew attached to the sequels. While they emphasized objectives, like collecting particular animals, I only cared about making the Katamari Ball as big as possible. I know people who share my opinion and others who are polar opposites. There is very little middle ground with the Katamari series, so we’ll have to wait and see how well the Prince can maneuver down the center line.
