But are they all that different from any of us? Halo 2 was rife with cheating due to the face that each player had a rank associated to them, and to the best of my knowledge, no one ever got a million dollar paying job, or accepted to Harvard because of a high Halo 2 ranking. Those of us who play games “normally” do so for nothing else than the enjoyment of the game and when that game is done, we have nothing to show for it. Boosters, on the other hand, play a greater variety of games, complete more of the games they play and, in the end, get something tangible out of it. Oh sure, there are patches of bone crushing boredom when boosting multiplayer and bouts of hair pulling frustration at having to play Transformers: The Game, but they would say that they enjoy what they’re doing and who are we to question their enjoyment? Maybe we’re the strange ones.
Maybe, but probably not. They’re raving lunatics and they’ll be the first ones to admit it, but as long as they keep buying games and supporting the industry, who are we to judge? Different types of people enjoy games for different reasons and as long as they’re not bugging me, I say live and let live. Besides, you’ll probably never see a Booster take the time to hump a corpse in Halo 3 because that’s just time taken away from obtaining kills. Unless, that is, there’s an achievement for it.
