The musical hit "Dreamgirls" scored the most Oscar nominations today from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Oddly enough Dreamgirls didn't get nominated for best picture The film scored eight noms including three nominations for best song, best supporting actor Eddie Murphy and actress Jennifer Hudson, and several technical categories. Best picture nominations included "Babel," "The Departed," "The Queen," "Letters from Iwo Jima" and "Little Miss Sunshine. Babel got seven niminations in various categories, along with The Queen,which got a respectable six nominations.
Best actor nominees included Leonardo DiCaprio for "Blood Diamond," Ryan Gosling for "Half Nelson," Peter O'Toole for "Venus," Will Smith for "The Pursuit of Happyness" and Forest Whitaker for "The Last King of Scotland."
Nominated for best actress were Penelope Cruz for "Volver," Judi Dench for "Notes on a Scandal," Helen Mirren for "The Queen," Meryl Streep for "The Devil Wears Prada" and Kate Winslet for "Little Children." The Academy Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, Feb. 25 at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood.
