Well it’s finally here, the long awaited AQUA TEEN HUNGER FORCE COLON MOVIE FILM FOR THEATERS, and if you’re a big fan of Adult Swim on the Cartoon Network then you’re probably also a big fan of the show.
For those of you who don’t know, ATHF has been around for a while. With more than 60 episodes already produced and over one million DVD sales to date, the show proves it has the staying power and the fan base needed to warrant the making of a movie. Written and directed by Dave Willis and Matt Maiellaro ATHF is one of four original Williams Street shows found on Adult Swim, the other three being Sealab 2021, The Brak Show, and Harvey Birdman Attorney At Law. ATHF is the highest rated of these four series and the highest rated show period on Adult Swim during its Sunday night time slot. The TV show has also spawned a videogame called Aqua Teen Hunger Force Zombie Ninja Pro-Am, which is being published by Midway later this year.
The show itself started in 2001 and is comprised of four main characters starting with Frylock (voiced by Carey Means) , who is a large container of fries with braces, a goatee and a jewel embedded in his back that gives him his special powers. Of the four main characters Frylock is definitely the most moral - with science as his hobby this character tries to find time for inventions and experiments whilst keeping everyone out of trouble as well as acting as a parental figure to Meatwad.
Meatwad of course is exactly what his name suggests, a large wad of meat. A little slow, usually he’s in constant need of guidance from Frylock as he’s very easy to convince into doing bad and usually dangerous stuff. His simple childish demeanor makes it even funnier when he gets sassy with people, telling them off, or making threats to Master Shake (often under his breath).
Master Shake has got to be my favorite character; he’s selfish, self centered and often down right mean, especially to Meatwad who he gets the most fun out of torturing. A large white shake with a straw sticking from his head has the useless power of shooting a wad of lime shake onto the ground from his straw as well as the “power” to blow up pretty much everything he throws at the ground.
The last of the four main characters in the group is the ATHF’s neighbor where they live in New Jersey, Carl. Carl is the embodiment of every stereotype you’ve ever heard about a Jersey rocker in the eighties. With a filthy wife beater, flip-flops, and sweatpants as his daily outfit Carl is constantly trying to avoid his neighbors and keep them off his pristine lawn and out of his coveted above ground pool.
