But it’s the robots that really make this movie and there has been nothing like them on the screen up until now. Large and imposing, yet frightfully agile and expressive, both factions are well represented and are given plenty of screen time to shine, both in robot and vehicle form. Battles are loud and well staged with plenty of real world objects thrown about and blown up. Bay has always had a flair for the explosions and he puts every one of his skills to good use to make this one of the most explosive movies in recent memory.
Fanboys may quibble over the lack of screen time for some of the Decepticons, or the lack of interaction between them, but by the time all of them have made themselves known and started to battle with the Autobots, all complaints will be thrown aside as you simply try to hold on for the ride.
The buildup for this movie, and the built-in fan base of both fans from 20 years ago, and new ones gained by the recent release of the movie toys, all but guarantees that Transformers will bring in enough cash to have Optimus Prime and the rest returning in short time. Transformers may not be the smartest movie you’ll ever see, but it’s one of the most technically impressive, and most fun experiences you’ll have all summer. Transform and roll out!
