Last week at Activision's Enemy Territory: Quake Wars event in LA, GameShark sat in on a round-robbin interview session with the developers of Quake Wars (Kevin Cloud- co-owner of id Software and Paul Wedgwood - founder of Splash damage). While these questions are brief, they do shed some additional light details on this promising team-based first-person shooter. Check the questions out below (please note that some of these questions were asked by other media outlets):

Q: Do you think that Quake Wars will live up to the hype that has been generated in the online community?

A: Well for one thing we think the game offers something unique that interests people and is very focused on teamplay. Visually the game just stands out and shows extremely well. For the people that have played ET: Wolf, they understand what we are talking about with the character classes and people playing the role that they chose and it touches a chord with the players. You’re never quite sure if people are going to like it, we were actually blown away with the awards and the reception the game has gotten so far from the first e3 it was shown at to the time it was playable.

Q: With the ranking system that is included in the game. Is that only going to be available for the maps that have officially been developed and ship with the game or is there going to be a way for user created maps to be included in the ranking system?

A: As for right now it will only be available for the maps that ship with the game, but it is something that are talking about doing, unfortunately it is something that isn’t being done as of right now, but it is something that we do want to be available to support the modding community. There are a lot of things we need to consider before we try to get it implemented like how it would impact the data base, but for right now it will just be the official maps that ship with the game.

Q: What anti- Cheating methods are you going to be providing to make sure the playing field remains free of cheaters, aimbots and so forth?

A: The game will ship with punkbuster who most gamers know provide a great service that combat all forms of cheating and keep the game fair and cheat free on pure servers.

Q: Will there be any walking tutorials or training modes to help the new players get into the game and get a feel of what’s going on and to help breach the learning curve?

A: We have working bots in the game so players can actually go ahead and run around with them and so far from our testing, the bots have been working really well. For players that don’t want to immediately jump into a live server and play, there is always that option.

Q: With Quake 4 there were no female player models to choose from, is it going to be the same with Quake Wars?

A: Right now, there are no plans for female models for the release of the game and for the time being it will remain that way. We may go ahead and change that after the game is released but as of right now, no they will not be included.

Q: You’ve had ET: Wolfenstein and now ET: Quake, were there or is there any thoughts on an ET: DOOM?

A: There’s been lots of thoughts. *laughs* There have been thoughts on it, but really with ET: Quake we haven’t had much time to think other than “hey DOOM would really rock with the demons and stuff”.
