Bonus Round: First Looks
This week i've decided to highlight briefly two promising projects that gamers may want to pay attention to. The first is Mat Dickie's latest wrestling game project - already in development just a few days after the completion of his boxing game Reach. The second is a promising old school role-playing game being developed by Basilisk games called Eschalon: Book I.
With his latest game out of the way and on virtual store shelves, Mat Dickie has returned to his roots with a brand new wrestling game project. Right now the game is being called the "
Wrestling Project
," despite fans dubbing it "Wrestling Revolution." Names aside, this new game will use many of the features created for Reach to add some new spice to the old game. You can get a look at one of these mechanics in action via
Mat's YouTube channel
. Some of these features include a new kicking and stomping mechanic, more advanced skins with more new types of clothing and an overall refined look. By far the most popular titles in Mat Dickie's line-up are his wrestling games, so it will be interesting to see what new things he plans to bring to the table when the game is complete in 3 - 6 months. Keep your eyes on the links above for new information on the game and in-game action video.
Basilisk Games' first title,
Eschalon: Book I
looks like a winner already. This indie developer promises an epic
trilogy of computer RPGs created in the spirit of the great role-playing games of the past like the Wizardry, Ultima and Might & Magic series of games. While that's a pretty heavy burden to bear,
Eschalon: Book I looks like it might just pull it off.
The game will offer massive outdoor environments, sprawling
dungeons, 2D tile-based environments, turn-based strategic combat, skill management, hundreds of items and dozens of creatures to battle. Best of all, the game will feature randomly generated
treasure, 24 unique skills, 8 base attributes, scalable difficulty based on your progress, a non-linear storyline with plenty of side quests and plots. If you enjoy
old school role-playing, then you'll want to keep your eye on Eschaton Book I.
And that's all for this week. Thanks for reading - see you next week. As always, questions, comments and hate mail are welcomed - send it along to
