Big Box of Blox

Digital Eel recently released two of its classic games to the public for free - as Christmas presents. The first game released is the wonderful Big Box of Blox , a matching game where you line up matching blox. What sets this game aprt from other matching games is that it offers a lot of themes in one package and a lot of wonderful art. The art style is really what gives this game its soul. If you like puzzlers and free is the right price for you, check out this game now - and be sure to say thanks you to Rich and the crew.

Dr. Blob's Organism

The second game, Dr. Blob's Organism, shows how you can take a familiar concept and turn it into something unique using a bizarre setting and simple but crisp art work. Dr. Blob's Organism is a frenetic arcade style shoot 'em up where players must contain a virus by shooting it. You keep it within the confines of a petri dish by rotating it and shooting the blobs before they ooze out. It's a simple and unique concept that works well and is lots of fun. Find it for free at www.digital-eel.co .

Last of the Patriots

Last Of The Patriots is an odd game, but it's also very interesting for a few good reasons - not the least of which is who created it. The game was developed by Paul Davis, whose pedigree includes such titles as GTA San Andreas, GTA 4, Manhunt, and Manhunt 2. Instead of working from a design document Davis decided to work from a script he wrote. The result of the game is an interesting story and dialog. The biggest hurdle for some maybe the mechanics of the game and the graphics which are bare bones. The idea behind this project, says Davis, is to create a prototype for future games that focus on plot and character and less on action. The result is something that proves to be pretty interesting. .

And that's all for this edition of The Indies. Thanks for reading - see you next issue. As always, questions, comments and hate mail are welcomed - send it along to jamesbfudge@gmail.com or gameshark.feedback@yahoo.com . - James Fudge
