No Givin' Up The Ghost!

After a month long hiatus, The Indies returns ready to continue its mission to highlight the best independently developed games in the world. I wouldn't have taken a break from it but some personal issues which I won't get into here forced my hand. Nonetheless, i'm back and happy to be once again highlighting all the great games being released around the world. Let's jump right in and get this party started.

Sixty Seconds With...

You have probably seen a mention or two of the roguelike Egoboo and there's reason to mention it one more time - a brand new update. This update adds a lot of goodies to the game including new music track for the Elf Starter, an update to Healers and Paladins who now gain wisdom bonus to their healing power, new textures for The Abyss, an update to the Paladin and Wizard starters that makes them easier to complete and a whole lot more. Check it all out at egoboo.informe.com .

While trolling through Sourceforge this weekend I happened upon a devilishly clever puzzle game called gotangry? . The object of the game is to get your four colored pieces around the board before your three other opponents do. Sound simple enough right? Not so! The only way to get your pieces on the board is to roll a six. Once you do you can move any piece on the board. You knock out (or get knocked back to the start yourself) pieces by landing directly on the same space as another piece, which proves to be difficult to avoid one way or the other once the game gets rolling. While gotangry? isn't particularly flashy it is some interesting fun that anyone can play once they figure out the rules of the game.

Dave Gilbert's Wadjet Eye Games is at it again with a brand new adventure called Blackwell Unbound . In this prequel to Blackwell Legacy, Lauren Blackwell and her spirit guide Joey Mallone believe something strange is happening after a series of accidents plague a midtown construction site. These two strange beings, one dead, the other deeply connected to the world beyond, are the only ones who can stop an enigmatic killer from striking again. Blackwell Unbound looks to be a decent adventure mystery worth the price of admission. You can score it from www.wadjeteyegames.com or www.manifestogames.com .

Impeller Head Games recently released Pipe World, an interesting and cute puzzle game that combines some traditional puzzle solving with a new mix of game play and beautiful graphics. The game features two game modes (Puzzle Mode and Arcade Mode), five types of pipes, 95 levels in Puzzle Mode, online scores for Arcade Mode and autosaves for up to 10 players. Score it from www.impellerhead.com .

Soldak Entertainment's action RPG, Depths of Peril looks like an interesting RPG experience, though I haven't had a chance to get some hands on time with the game just yet. The promise of a single player action role-playing game experience with strong strategy elements has me intrigued.

In the game you play as a faction leader protecting a barbarian city called Jorvik. You are charged with destroying monsters and completing quests. At the same time, you compete with rival factions to see who will rule the city. Barbarians choose their leaders by fighting to the death so expect a lot of action.
