Brighton, UK-based motion capture systems manufacturer
Animazoo UK Ltd
and Autodesk announced today the winner of the "create a 3d character" competition published in 3D World magazine in May 2006. To celebrate the launch the Gypsy5 motion capture range of products, Animazoo challenged 3D World readers to create their own rigged and skinned character with a polygon count of less than 5,000; a restriction that insured the creativity of contestants would shine through. Competition was fierce with many excellent entries and after much deliberation first prize of a Gypsy5-Torso motion capture system complete with Autodesk MotionBuilder 7.5 software, is awarded to Mexico City-based animation teacher, Miguel Salinas.
The prize package has a combined prize value of over US $20,000. Chosen for his 3d character creation `See Feram', Salinas gleefully accepted the award and noted that this is the first time someone in Mexico City has won such an award. The runners up are San Diego resident, Joe Philips and Sobolev Vasilyevich of Kazakhstan. Each will each receive a half day capture session at Animazoo UK's Brighton-based studio.
