Aquaman: Battle for Atlantis, is an action/adventure game developed by Lucky Chicken Games and published by TDK-Mediactive. It makes you the DC Comics superhero of the seven seas. Armed with "super powers" including the ability to telepathically summon sea creatures like sharks and whales to assist you in underwater battles, Aquaman must defend the legendary city of Atlantis from his arch enemies Ocean Master, Black Manta and the Lava Lord of the Fire Trolls. In addition to sea creature allies, Aquaman fights using his hook hand that can morph into a shooting harpoon with trailing cable that wraps tightly around foes.
Aquaman's legacy as a DC Comics' crime-fighting superhero doesn't get much direct reference in the game but as the "ardent protector of the seven seas" he's a damn good swimmer and so are the evil villains he has to deal with. Hand-to-hand combat looks pretty decent with passable animations simulating the watery depths. But even Aquaman need a little dry time, so part of the action takes place from his cool little submarine. He can cruise along the ocean surface at high speed or dive deep to scoot around underwater bases and ruins, blasting the enemy with the sub's weaponry in craft-to-craft battle.
If you like talking to fish, you're gonna like Aquaman: Battle for Atlantis. But seriously, folks, Lucky Chicken Games and TDK-Mediactive have produced a decent game with more than twenty levels that finally spotlights one of the most overlooked members of comic book superhero fame. Graphics and animations are not revolutionary but do provide a unique experience for one of the relatively few underwater action games available. The cutting edge of technology may not be quite as sharp as gaming fanatics lust after but the fun factor in Aquaman is definitely there.
