PC Game of the Year

PC Game of the Year: R.U.S.E.

Crafty, daring, and completely overlooked by the masses that flocked to StarCraft 2, R.U.S.E. is the best strategy game, and maybe the best game of 2010 that you probably didn’t play. That’s a shame – as you will be hard pressed to find a better mix of RTS and wargame than UbiSoft’s masterpiece of strategic obfuscation.

From our review "R.U.S.E. might be the best RTS released this year, and it is certainly the most original. Eugen Systems has created a marvelously accessible multiplayer game, and presided over a very happy marriage of the real-time strategy game and the wargame."

Runner Ups

Din’s Curse

Din’s Curse isn’t the most innovative game of 2010 by any stretch but this dungeon crawler hits all the right notes with monsters that gain experience along with missions that have you jugging multiple balls at once. If hack and slash is your game – Din’s Curse is a must buy.

From our review: "It is easy to sink hour after hour into Din's Curse and never really get bored even if the whole thing looks familiar."

Metro 2033

Metro 2033 could have easily made the console Top 5 as well but on the PC the game shines with ridiculous graphics that bring this atmospheric and wildly entertaining shooter to life. If you didn’t play this tense and gritty shooter in 2010 – grab it now. It’s linear storytelling wrapped up in a tough shooter in one of the most believable settings ever created.

From our review "Providing your system is capable, you'll be treated to a gorgeous experience absolutely unattainable on console platforms which will make the game all the more immersive and fun to play."

Mass Effect 2

BioWare did it again – Mass Effect 2 took most of what was wrong with the original and created a sequel that leaves us waiting impatiently for part 3 – and it is best experienced on the PC.

From our review "…with Mass Effect 2 Bioware has again re-affirmed its status as the premiere developer of games whose main assets have little to do with swords or assault rifles, but the stories and characters that bring games to life."

Mount & Blade: Warband

If you loved the original then this is a no brainer. You can make a case for this being the best open world game ever created – only without hookers, gangs, zombies or cowboys. If you are looking to get completely lost inside a game world then Warband should be on your hard drive.

From our review "There’s no magic. No gods or monsters. There is steel and horse and lords and ladies. Once you arrive on the shores of the kingdom of your choice the game all but turns you loose to find your own way in the world, trying to make your mark."
