Welcome to The Game Of The Year Awards 2006!
2006 was a marquee year for gamers. During this year we saw systems like the Xbox 360, PSP and the Nintendo DS continue to expand and mature; the beginning life cycle of two new consoles - Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 3; and the decline of two once powerful platforms (Gamecube and Xbox). During this year of robust growth in the industry we waited and embraced two new consoles that would change the face of gaming for years to come while we watched other platforms bolster their software libraries with some fantastic and powerfully innovative games. For years we've heard leaders in our industry talk about creating innovative titles that change the way consumers play games, and 2006 delivered these kinds of products in droves.
So it is rather appropriate and exciting that GameShark launches its first annual Game of the Year Awards for 2006 because there were so many great games and game related products to honor. Some of our choices were no-brainers while many others were hand-wringing, soul searching nightmares. There were so many great games on some platforms that picking the very best one proved to be easier said then done, but at the end of the day we have no regrets with the choices we've made - and we think you'll whole heartedly agree. - James Fudge, Editor in Chief, GameShark.com. |
