Zelda: Twilight Princess
It should come as no surprise that the final Zelda title on the GameCube is the top pick of 2006. This final epic title for the GameCube from Nintendo delivers yet another excellent action role-playing game that fans have fallen madly in love with. If you needed proof that Twilight Princess was an instant hit upon release, all you had to do was try and find the game in stores during the holiday shopping season - GameCube or Wii. Twilight Princess mixes a number of new features with a familiar control scheme complete with Z targeting, familiar weapons, horseback combat and an older more mature Link. The game just rocks on the GameCube and is certainly a nice consolation prize for those fans who couldn't get their hands on a Wii.

Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy
Lego Star Wars II takes the classic toy building blocks
and combines it with the epic story, characters and action from the Star Wars: Episodes IV, V and VI films. But this retelling of these classic stories starring Luke, the Princess, Hans and the rest of the crew is done with a unique tongue-in-cheek take that is fun and entertaining. While the game maybe be a bit more visually stunning on other platforms, the GameCube version features all the same gameplay elements including over-the-top battles using all of your favorite Star Wars weaponry, Lego style building using your force powers, 50+ characters playable in free mode and much, much more. In the year that marks the end of the GameCube’s life cycle, LEGO Star Wars II is a solid and fun game to go out with.

FIFA 07
FIFA 07 has been mentioned elsewhere in our awards, and as sports game go on the Gamecube, it's a pretty decent endeavor. FIFA 07 truly delivers a more deeply evened out sports product with gameplay that matches the level of detail paid only to licensing in the past. While the game isn't as great as it is on other platforms, FIFA 07 does the best it can with what it has to work with to create a great and fulfilling soccer game that is deserving of an acknowledgement on our list.

Harvest Moon: Magical Melody
Another milestone for the GameCube in its final year as a serious platform, is Natsume's latest life simulation game. Harvest Moon: Magical Melody is much broader offering than previous games in the series, with more freedom to choose what do with your life. A nice blend of gameplay that borrows from previous games in the series and element from games like Animal Crossing, Musical Melody is an open ended and fun game and possibly the best in the series. For it's endearing and cute gameplay Harvest Moon: Musical Melody earns a spot on our list for 2006.

Mega Man X Collection
A surprisingly satisfying game collection from Capcom delivered no less than six classic games from the Mega Man X series that graced the Super NES and PlayStation and it was very good indeed. The Mega Man X Collection offers a great compilation of six games from Mega Man's X run on the Super Nintendo and PlayStation. X Collection takes many of the concepts from the wonderful Mega Man Anniversary Collection, including auto-saves for each game, and lots of unlockable goodies. While the X collection isn't nearly as great as the original Mega Man Anniversary Collection, partially because there's just not as much meat on its proverbial bones (the latter games are not as great as the first three titles in the collection , it does deliver some great games that new and old players can enjoy. The Mega Man X Collection delivers a decent dose of nostalgia that is emulated flawlessly on the GameCube and that's why it rounds out our list of the best of 2006.
