Madden NFL 10 Developer Q&A
After seeing Madden 10 first hand at E3, I decided to have a little chat with members of the design team...bring a lunch, people--seriously.

Will the Xbox 360 version have in game saves?

Ian: Unfortunately this feature did not make it into Madden NFL 10. We obviously had a huge amount of improvements and changes to make (many directly from the community), so it was difficult to make the call on this one knowing that so many folks in our community really want the feature. We started development on it but it turned into a much bigger technical challenge than we expected, so we had to cut the line and let it loose. This feature will continue to be on our radar moving forward.

Are the features from last year, the Madden IQ and Backtrack/Rewind still in the game? If so, are they different at all?

Ian: Yes, Madden IQ, Rewind, and Backtrack all still exist in the game. Our focus on these features was mainly in streamlining them. The Madden IQ system still can run if you choose, but as for now it is in the background and turned off by default. EA Rewind is also defaulted to off but can still be turned on used if someone prefers it. BackTrack remains in the critical flow of the game and was tuned to show up in more intelligent situations (and not so often). As mentioned above, we were focused on what is 100% core to football and authenticity, so these changes met that goal and focus.

Well, folks, that was quite the mouthful, eh? It’s terribly hard not to be excited about Madden this year – the team is dedicated to bringing the most authentic NFL game to the table and we certainly hope that focus on realism in return provides a better game on and off the field. We’ll find out soon enough if the team pulled it off as the game drops on August 14th. I’d like to thank Ian, Donny, and Josh for taking the time to talk to us.
