Princess Toadstool's voice has been stolen by an evil witch named Cackeletta, from the Beanbean Kingdom. Mario & Luigi are asked by the residents of the Mushroom Kingdom to assist Bowser, King of the Koopas, in rescuing Princess Toadstool's voice. Once Princess Toadstool's voice is returned, King Bowser has made it clear he will then kidnap Princess Toadstool. In the meantime, every time the Princess tries to speak, explosives appear and wreak havoc on the kingdom.

I have finally figured out a good way to determine if a game has truly awesome graphics, play it on the Game Boy Player. I have played a few games on the Game Boy Player and few look as good as Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga. The colors are vibrant and there is little pixelization from being stretched so large. Keep in mind I have a 32 inch screen television, so it is really stretched.

As a role playing game, the controls for the most part are simple. It gets difficult when getting use to the brother moves. Maybe it is because I do not play a Game Boy Advance regularly, but the colors of the GameCube controller in relation to Mario and Luigi throws me off slightly. The B button is red and the A button is green, the opposite colors of Mario and Luigi. Another added bit of difficulty is the use of the L and R buttons to switch through lead and following character actions. I find I must play a little mind game with myself to make it seem less painful. I also confuse the X and Y buttons for the Start button when wanting to switch characters and use the game menu.

The freshness is not entirely lost. Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars was a good game when it came out for the Super Nintendo so many years ago and it surely takes no thunder away from Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga. The fact this game offers brother attacks and is able to be played on a handheld makes it worth getting. The addition of the original Mario Brothers game for use against up to four other players adds an extra bit of fun.

I have been playing this game for 2 hours a day since I got it four days ago. The fact I have not been able to solve the game proves to me that it will last a while. Plus, looking at the game map I am not even one-forth of the way through the game. Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars has nothing on Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga.

Nintendo should release Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars for the Game Boy Advance. Playing it and comparing to Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga you will find one big difference, short of brother moves. The fact is no other characters are playable. The one thing I love about a game is a choice, a choice to pick other characters, cars or weapons. The aforementioned is the only short side of Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga. The game is still fun, but the extras are not there. It is a basic role-playing game featuring the plumber brothers from New York.
