Take-Two has launched a premeptive strike against lawyer Jack Thompson this week with a lawsuit of its own. Jack Thompson is a Florida-based attorney and self-professed anti-games crusader who has been an outspoken critic and general nusiance to the company for several years.
Thompson has been a one man crusade against the company in Florida recently and other states to keep Take-Two's new releases, Grand Theft Auto 4 and Manhunt 2 from being sold to minors. Take-Two has said that Thompson's effort to block sales of its games through lawsuits violates the company's First Amendment rights. This is the first time that Take-Two has sued Thompson who has long spoken out against the content of the company's video games. Thompson has been a thorn in the company's side for quite some time, filing lawsuits that attempt to draw a link between the company’s Grand Theft Auto games and a multitude of crimes including police shootings, high speed chases and more. When Thompson isn’t suing Take-Two, he’s talking about the company in any venue that will listen. His efforts have proven unsuccessful to date, and Take Two is doing its best to keep it that way. We'll keep you posted on this story as it develops.
