After much rumor, speculation, gossip and any other synonyms you can think of, Blizzard has finally pulled the cork and revealed that they are indeed working on Diablo 3 and have been for quite sometime. The much anticipated follow up the click and slash Diablo II, Diablo 3 will feature many of the same game play elements as the previous title with – of course – some brand new features such as 3D environments and full use of the Havok physics engine.

The story takes place 20 years after you had defeated Baal at the end of the expansion Lord of Destruction and sees players once again return to the world of Sanctuary. Once again the forces of the Burning Hell threaten the land and players will have the choice of one of five player classes to choose from. Only the Witch Doctor and Barabarian have been revealed so far, but the rest will soon be on their way.

As for the multiplayer side of things, Diablo 3 will benefit from Battle.net upgrades that will provide cooperative online play with multiple enhancements being planned to make connecting with your friends easier. No release date has been given yet and chances are we won’t be seeing it for quite some time, but in the meantime be sure to check out the slew of screenshots and start getting giggly!
