Atari Hopes To Sell Off Cryptic Studios
So long MMO, hello mobile.
Date: Wednesday, May 18, 2011
Author: Brian Rowe

Atari purchased Cryptic Studios December 2008 with the hopes of expanding into the MMO market. That plan hasn't gone nearly as well as anyone hoped.

Champions Online and Star Trek Online both struggled from the outset. Champions Online's switch to free-to-play in January 2011 has increased revenue by a reported 1,000 percent, but has not been enough to rectify previous losses. In the meantime, Cryptic Studios will continue to support both MMOs and development of Neverwinter.

So, what does Atari have up it's sleeve now? Casual online games and mobile games, apparently.

Does anyone else get the feeling that Atari is following a little too cautiously behind the curve?
