Earlier today, Crysis 2 was removed from the popular digital delivery platform, Steam.
Although Crysis 2 was not pulled from the service by EA, it did raise awareness of EA's plans moving forward to emphasize its own digital delivery service;
Origin.
Valve insisted that Crysis 2 was removed due to conflicting interests with another service on behalf of Crytek. Likely, the problem pertains to Crysis 2 on Origin.
According to EA's Frank Gibeau:
"We are going to continue to be great partners for our retail channel partners as they evolve their business models to account for digital. But at the same time you talk about platform exclusives like Halo or Uncharted, EA's going to have some of our own platform exclusives."
EA has already announced that digital versions of BioWare's heavily-anticipated MMO, Star Wars: The Old Replublic, will only be available via Origin. EA and Valve have yet to comment as to how this may affect future relations. As a member of the EA Partners program, Valve has relied on EA to distribute many of its retail products.
