Blood Bowl Q&A Part II: Community Questions
We finish our discussion with Patrick Pligersdorffer, CEO of Cyanide Studio as he answers questions sent directly from the Blood Bowl community.

How exactly will ranked play work? Will Matchmaking solely be based on team value or also some measure of coach skill?

A little bit of both.

Is there any instant replay system if you want to see a great play over again?

There is an automatic replay system for touchdowns and serious injuries. This way you won’t miss your little star Goblin being smashed to pieces by that nasty Black Orc.

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this one but will the special play cards be in the game?

No, we have said from the start that this part of the LRB 5.0 wouldn’t be included.

Miscellaneous Stuff

Patrick, if your favorite team is the Dark Elves how did they not make the cut? Was that a Cyanide call or was that a Games Workshop request?

It’s a democratic process and I lost! Games Workshop didn’t request anything regarding races (as far as I recall). We knew we had only enough time to include 8 races so we had discussions on which race would make the cut. We browsed forums and leagues to see the popular races. We wanted to have races with different gameplay, and we wanted a good mix of good and “evil” races. So we ended up leaving the Dark Elves on the side of the road. But they’ll be back with a vengeance (along with a couple friends at the very least).

Are there plans on releasing a demo?

In general, we do. So, that will probably be the case but this is not the type of decision that Cyanide makes. It will depend on our publisher whether there is one, what would be in and when it would be released.

Can we do any customizations to our stadium? Adding stuff like team banners, flags etc?

There are no custom stadiums. The only customization is the fact that you can see the logos of the home team on banners throughout the stadium.

Are there various animations for each action? Or will a block always look the same?

There are several animations for each action: combat, dodging, blocking.

What statistics does the game track for your players? Touchdowns, fouls, and so on?

We track all the stats recorded in the board game: touchdowns, fouls, injuries,… plus a few of our own such as yards rushed, yards passed.

Will the famous teams have the star players from the game like Griff Oberwald and Zug?

Yes and no. There will be one star player per race. So for example, Griff Oberwald is in but Zug had to stay home. Not popular enough with the ladies!

Once again I'd like to personally thank Patrick for taking the time to chat with us about a game that, I freely admit, I cannot wait to play as my Orc squad marches across the field stomping everything in its wake. 'Ere we go! 'Ere we go! Ahem. Anyway, look for Blood Bowl in stores this June.
