To coincide with the August release of the upcoming 3D family movie, The Smurfs, Ubisoft has announced that it will develop and publish a video game based on the live-action / CG-animation hybrid film, for the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo DS.

The film is directed by Raja Gosnell. The producer is Jordan Kerner. The screenplay is by J. David Stem & David N. Weiss and Jay Scherick & David Ronn, from a story by J. David Stem & David N. Weiss, based on the characters and works of Peyo.

In the game, the evil wizard Gargamel chases the tiny blue Smurfs out of their village and they tumble from their magical world and into ours. Just three apples high and roaming around New York, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down.
