You have several different types of hunters as well, which is not available in the adventure mode. These are specifically for competitive play, whether it be someone in the same room as you, or across the world on WiFi. You can play as Sylux, Weavel, Noxus, Kirken, Spire, or Kanden in addition to Samus. Each of these characters has similar weapons, depending on how you outfit yourself, but they have different attacks as they are rolled up into a ball. While Samus has her standard mine drop, each of these other characters has their own unique attack.
After each match you will have the option of trying to become a person’s rival. You can offer, and they will need to accept. That way to can continue to attempt to continue going up against the same types of people to grow with in stride. There is another feature on the DS though that allows you to fold up the screen with the game still running, and walk around with your day-to-day life. If you encounter another person that is doing this, you will automatically add each other to your rival’s list. These rival lists increase your chance of playing against these people, or you can choose to specially only be matched up against them. When you do have a set of friends, you can talk to them before and after the match, so that you can even try and intimidate them by talking smack.
There are different types of battles you can enter, from the general battle where you are trying to kill as many as possible before the timer runs out, or you reach your kill limit. There is the survival mode, where the last player standing is the winner. You have a bounty mode, which is sort of like capture the flag. You have the defender mode, where you need to secure a specific place for points. Prime hunter is a rag tag game, much like king of the hill. The person who makes the first kill gets to be the king, until someone kills them. You have Capture the flag, where you try and take Octoliths from another person’s base, and return it to your own. Finally you have Nodes, where you fight on the node, and if you go uncontested for ten seconds you win it, and with that a point.
All and all this game is fantastic. It is a great use of the WiFi connection, and a fantastic reason to get a DS. The controls are immaculate, and aside from a few plat-forming issues I had, works fantastically for all aspects of the game. Some parts are even retro, giving an older style to the game, which is a great touch. If you are a fan of first person shooters, than this game is for you. If you are considering getting a DS, this is another great game that has been put out, which alone is worth buying the system for. All and all Captain Gordon gives this game... an A.
