Final Fantasy – Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates Review
10 out of 15
A pint-sized adventure that excels in its multiplayer and falters in its single player--often for the same reasons.

The game has done a great job, both aurally and visually, in utilizing the strengths of the platform. The character models are cutesy but move and attack in a surprisingly zealous manner, and the special effects of magic flying about adds a bit of eye candy to the action. Cutscenes and towns are where the graphics engine really shines, with a level of detail that really fleshes out the game world. In the single player nearly all of the main characters not only have voice actors for the cutscenes but also a staggeringly high number of lines considering the platform. They are delivered in a somewhat cheesy manner, but it oddly fits the game’s cutesy appeal.

Final Fantasy – Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates is a great game if you plan on purchasing it with the intent on playing it primarily with other people. The multiplayer mode is easily what the game was designed around, with the single player not only feeling like an afterthought despite the character development but also suffering from the same gameplay mechanics that make the multiplayer enjoyable. The gameplay is much more refined than what was found with the original title, but it would be hard to say that the sequel is the better game.
