Boo! Scared ya, didn’t I? Okay, probably not as much as say a Resident Evil or Typing of the Dead game, but you can’t fault a guy for trying. The Fall Classic edition of This Week In Downloads is raring to go and boy do we have some good titles this week (quality is better than quantity, right)? Let’s get to it!

GameTap

We’ll start the week off with GameTap since I just picked up a brand new Quad Core computer. Yes, it only has a Windows Experience score of 5.0 because of the GeForce 8500 GT card, but did I mention it’s a Quad Core? Well now that I have this technological marvel, I need some games to play on it and GameTap doesn’t disappoint. This week there are only three new releases; one of which is Clive Barker’s Jericho…as in the game that just got released to retail for the Xbox 360 and PC earlier this week. This game is included in your GameTap subscription which, if you sign up this week, is only $59.90. So for the price of a regular console game, you can have over 1,000 games to play from the Atari 2600 up to the PC. Even if you’re not a fan of Jericho, you won’t ever get a deal like this again, so grab it already! (The 2.3 GB (!) download does take some time so you may want to grab it overnight). It’s definitely worth a download though—especially given the price of FREE! Oh yeah, there are two other games released this week on the service: the 1999 “Classic” (and by classic, I mean ‘unplayable’) “Clans” RPG game and the “meh” action strategy game also from 1999 called “Abomination,” as used in the following sentence: “This game is an Abomination.” These jokes don’t write themselves, people!! I’d say save your money, but again, these are all included in your subscription – you’re only limited by the amount of hard drive space you have and since my new computer has a mere 1 terabyte, I guess I’ll keep them all on my drive!

PlayStation Store

Okay, enough rubbing in about my fantastic computer. Let’s move along to the wonderful world of consoles. First up we have the PlayStation store, and let’s just say that if you’rea big fan of Blu Ray movie trailers you will be in heaven. Of course this is a column about gaming and not about trailers for “Reign Over Me” so you’ll have to lower your expectations. There’s one notable release, which is the PSOne game “Spyro the Dragon,” now playable on your PS3 or PSP, but $5.99? Really? I don’t recall paying $5.99 for this in the bargain bin, so I think I’ll pass on it. Two new game add-ons were also released: one for the puzzle game Piyotama which gives the game a Halloween theme (and it’s free, woohoo); the second is another add-on for Ninja Gaiden Sigma which really has come into it’s own in the world of add-ons. At least one game manufacturer is releasing add ons, even if you really don’t want what’s being offered!

There was an internet rumor about a new title update for Motorstorm being released, but apparently that’s a Europe only release – there’s no sign of the title update in the USA as we went to press, but if that changes we’ll update accordingly.

Wii Shop Channel

The Wii Virtual console offerings are rather week – the headliner is the NES’ “Lunar Pool.” Are you excited yet? Me neither. I will give Nintendo props for bringing another Japanese only game to the USA, even if it is Jaleco’s stinker called “Ninja JaJaMaru-kun.” If you love ninja frogs, you’ll love this game. Or not. It’s not great. Definitely not $6 great, I’d rather play Spyro! The third and final game in the Virtual Console trilogy is Sega’s Golden Axe 3, aka “blech.” Let’s just say that between this and the Golden Axe fighting game, it could pass for torture in some parts of the world. Did I mention blech already? Ok, yes I did.

Xbox Live Marketplace

It’s time to grab a seat and relax as we’re about to delve into the Xbox 360 releases for the week. Thanks to Microsoft for making this column worthwhile, as without them, there’s so much content you’ll never know what the heck has come out.
