Rounding out the 360 titles, remember Test Drive Unlimited? If you haven’t played it or are unfamiliar, I highly recommend you pick it up – the always online environment is fantastic and the game is still one I go back and play despite its age. There’s yet more downloadable content for this game thankfully, and it’s another collection of cars which will set you back a little over $4.

GameTap

Over on GameTap, I have to admit I’m getting more and more frustrated with the lack of marquee games that are coming out on the service. GameTap apparently has signed an agreement with a company called Merscom to release the most unknown, unheard of games ever released. This time around it’s a game that is burning up the charts in Nepal, called “Bagh Chal.” It’s based on a popular board game, so I’m sure that Gameshark Editor Bill Abner will run, not walk in order to download it. Oh yeah the game is based on … (drum roll)….goats. (This is an ancient game—literally it was first mentioned around 900A.D. Stick with chess. – ed )

Game #2 is called Fastlane Pinball. I love pinball. I am a sucker for pinball. Of course, good luck trying to play a game circa 2005 on Windows Vista, as I’m having zero luck trying to play it. Other pinball games already on the service such as the 3-D Ultra series work fine – go figure.

Finally, a Strategy First game called 1914 Shells of Fury has you on a submarine during World War I. I guess that’s better than the Civil War – but still, it is a simulation and it’s not my personal cup of tea.

PlayStation Network

Now we’ve come to the last console in our download journey – the PlayStation 3. The most prolific franchise on the PSN is the Go Sports series and they’ve released a new title called Go! Sports Skydiving. It is about as good as the other games in the Go! Sports series – that means it’s terrible. I can’t believe I paid $4.99 for a game with the awesome control of Lair. At least it has rumble and a fat guy telling me how to skydive.

You may have thought that would be enough crap for one week, but you would be very, very wrong. While Japan continues to get great PSone games…we get another Crash Bandicoot game! Wee! In the words of Frank Caliendo doing Charles Barkley, it’s just “terribul” (sic).

What will save us from the despair of the PlayStation store? Well there are the same Rock and songs that are on the 360. Then there’s a free skin for Motorstorm celebrating the Chinese New Year. Last but definitely not least are some new game trailers. Normally I refrain from mentioning game trailers because they are so meaningless and not helpful – but this time I can’t control myself on MLB 08: The Show. While there are some roster issues already (Santana is a Twin still, for example), the graphics are saying “finally this is what a next gen baseball game looks like” and almost is comparable to those of the PYS series in Japan. It’s 45 or so seconds of true gaming goodness and if you’re into baseball, you need to see this trailer.
