The Games From E3 We Promise* Will Not Suck
It's our 2nd annual Games from E3 That We Promise Will Not Suck. Take these picks to the bank, baby!
Date: Monday, June 28, 2010

Another E3 has come and gone and we're back yet again to tell you which games from the show (that we saw) will not suck. We absolutely guarantee* that if you buy these games you will not be disappointed!

* We cannot guarantee this and you may very well end up disappointed.

The GameShark E3 2010 team: William Abner, Brandon Cackowski-Schnell, Danielle Riendeau, Mitch Dyer, Todd Brakke, Meghan Watt, Troy Goodfellow, and Toni Schwartz sat down to discuss the games they felt were surefire winners at E3.

William Abner, Editor in Chief. 11th E3.

My list is fairly safe this year. It was a strange E3 in that a lot of what we saw was hands off so it's hard to lay down any real guarantees. Before we start I should say that I thought EA Sports had a strong show this year from Madden to NHL ’11 but I avoided putting any sports games on my list, even though I would be stunned if some of those games failed. Diversify, I always say.

Civilization 5 (PC)

Civ 5 was my game of the show, which is strange considering that normally turn based strategy games do not "demo well" at shows like E3. That show is all about loud demos, bullets, kabooms and eye candy. Civ 5 did have eye candy, though. It's a pretty game and not "just" for a turn based game, either. While it's terribly difficult (i.e. impossible) to get to the real nitty gritty of a game like Civ with a 30 minute demo, the new combat mechanics, which remind of me an advanced spin on Panzer General, look like just what the doctor ordered. There are some fairly big risks with this version of the series, but I have every confidence that it's going to be a late night marriage killer.
