Epic Games was at the Game Developers Conference extolling the virtues of using Unreal 3 Engine as a middleware solution for developing games, and talking about some other bullet points important to Epic. Addressing a select group of press and development reps, Epic Games vice president Mark Rein talked about how the Unreal 3 Engine is a flexible and affordable solution for developing both big budget titles and smaller game projects.

Rein also explained why you won't see Unreal 3 Engine being used on According to a report on Gamasutra , Epic Games is pitching t enough to be considered as a viable solution for Rein also showed off Artificial Studios' upcoming Xbox 360 multiplayer action game Monster Madness as an example a small game project using Unreal Engine III.

When asked about Wii support for the Unreal Engine 3, Rein said that one of their licensees will probably make that happen at some point, much like Ubisoft made the middleware work on the PSP. Rein also said that the Wii's hardware isn't capable of supporting many of Unreal Engine 3's high end features like high level shader architecture.

Finally Rein talked about the mod community and its importance. When Unreal Tournament III ships later this year, Rein says that mod creators will get full access to the power of the Unreal Engine, allowing them to create powerful mods. Rein also talked about future support for mods on next-generation consoles, allowing the best user created content to be sold on services like Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Online - naturally this is a great idea but merely a concept that is a long way off from being implemented..
