KOEI today revealed Opoona, an all new original property for the Nintendo Wii. The game, which is being billed as an action role-playing game, is being developed by some heavy hitters from the Japanese development scene Shintaro Majima handling the art, Final Fantasy XII composer Hitoshi Sakimoto, Sachiko Yukimura (planning director) and many more.
Opoona is a cute and whimsical tale about Opoona, a descendant of the legendary Cosmo Guards, who finds himself alone after a visit the planet Landroll. Opoona began the journey with his parents and brother and sister, but after being separated, he finds himself alone, his parents in the hospital and his siblings gone missing. To find out what happened to his family Opoona must visit several colonies scattered throughout the galaxy, but to do so he must earn special licenses. The licenses are actually different job types that he'll have to take on to move on to the next location.
One of the most interesting aspects of the game announced today is that combat control will be handled entirely with the Wii's nunchuk during a battle system called Active Bombom Batt. The system allows Opoona to fire projectiles, the trajectory of which can be controlled by moving the nunchuk. We'll have more on this promising game as it becomes available. A release date was not disclosed at press time.
