Anyone that even had a passing love affair with Excitebike on the Nintendo Entertainment System take note: Excite Truck is the game for you! Revealed at Nintendo's E3 press event and playable on the floor of the E3 Expo in L.A., Excite Truck takes that same spirit found in that classic NES game and redefines it for the next-generation console. Players get behind the wheel of an off-road 4X4 truck and take it on a variety of dirt tracks for fun.

And Nintendo brings up a good point about racing games in its press material: If you've ever seen race fans playing a racing game you might notice them moving the controller left and right, steering it like it was a racing wheel. For those folks who looked absolutely ridiculous doing that, there's good news for you - now when you do that it will actually have an affect on gameplay. To drive your Excite Truck, players will turn the remote sideways and use it like an NES controller. They'll use the number one button to brake and the number two button to accelerate. As you do this you'll also turn the remote left or right to steer, and when you get off a ramp and catch some air you'll be able to move the remote in any direction to position your off-road vehicle to catch the perfect landing. Of course this can also mean you'll catch the perfect wreck, because it's not always as easy as it looks. Those capable of making that perfect landing will get a further boost in speed as they approach the next big jump. Rinse, repeat.

In between speeding, jumping and catching more speed, players will also be able to pick up a variety of cool power-ups to further enhance their vehicles' performance on the dirt. These power-ups do some neat things like turn innocent little jumps into massive jumps for super heaps of air. These will affect speed, velocity and height and can help players jump ahead in their respective routes for quicker times. The end goal of the game is to use all these features to get the highest score and the best finish at the end of each course.

Excite Truck is going to be one of those launch titles with very little depth but lots of replay value. It would be nice if there was some sort of multiplayer in this title (and there very well may be because the number of players is currently listed as "to be announced") and some sort of online ranking system... but we'll stop wishing and speculating. More on this game developed by Monster Games as it becomes available.
