The Conduit Preview
Mario's machine is about to be held hostage by this surprising shooter.

That, however, doesn't exclude the possibility of online multiplayer; on the contrary, the game plans on providing full online matches for up to 16 players. Standbys deathmatch and capture-the-flag modes are in the works, although we're hopeful some original variations are thrown into the mix as well. Alternatively, support for LAN multiplayer will be included. There's talk of some form of cooperative play, but whether that's online has yet to be determined.

The only thing questionable about The Conduit is its rather plain approach. Promises of a unique plot and creative puzzle-solving via a device called the "All-Seeing-Eye" are only that--promises. Without any hands-on with the game's puzzles and a thorough sit down to explore more of the narrative, it's difficult to gauge whether The Conduit will stick to convention or offer something fresh. Even if it does nothing more than refine shooting on Wii, it still looks to be worth a play when it ships in early 2009.
