FIFA 08 has online connectivity for the Wii although you do have to sign in via a weird EA server (this process is familiar to anyone using an EA game on any console); the online play is fluid and enjoyable. You are unable to create your own league, but the “FIFA Interactive League” has its moments. The complaints from older FIFA games still exist – not enough people playing MLS teams, and it’s tough to find an opponent to play an Interactive League game unless you’re on European time. Playing a quick game is a breeze even without voice chat. You won’t miss voice chat, because you’ll be so invested in the action.

FIFA 08 for the Wii is an enjoyable soccer game. It’s recommended that you rent first because the motion controls are an acquired taste and you should make sure you can live with the graphics and the fact the game isn’t as deep as other console versions. If you can get over those two things, you’ll have a lot of fun playing, particularly with the youngsters thanks to Family Play. If you can’t, there’s always the Xbox 360 version.
