Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles Review
9 out of 15
A decent on-rails shooter that, for better or worse, takes few chances with the standard formula.

That’s not to say that everything regarding the presentation of the game is well done. Music in the game is all but forgettable and should really only considered to be the preferable alternative to having nothing at all as an audio backdrop. The voice acting in the game is in a similar rut, with performances that range from the bland to the outright cheesy. Other small dents in the overall polish come in the form of how enemies don’t react in a very believable manner to getting hit by gunfire.

One of the biggest strengths Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles has is that it is a good quality shooter that has excellent control and pacing. At the same time despite the unique ideas that the game brings to the standard shooter formula it really doesn’t play much different than any other zombie shooter such as House of the Dead. The Resident Evil essence is intact and will spark some nostalgia for fans of the series, but take that name away and the game is essentially an incredibly average shooter that really does little to shake up the genre norm.
