If Square-Enix is going to charge a full retail price of $50 for the game on the Wii, there better be more game time than that to justify that high price point. At full price, this game does not give the consumer nearly as much of a challenge as it should. It definitely does not give the full experience that the consumer expects out of a Square-Enix product.
In the end, Dragon Quest: Swords is a game that fails to deliver. The visuals and sound are mediocre. The battle system is repetitive and mind-numbing. The level design is linear. The story is confusing and lacks depth. All of that adds up to a game which cannot be recommended as anything but a trial rental. Hopefully, Square-Enix takes the extra step next time to make a game that has innovative controls and is fun to play, and one that lives up to the Square name.
