Wii gets Dead Rising table scraps.

Unfortunately, even if you ignore any direct comparisons to the 360 version, Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop isn't without a lion's share of faults. For starters, the game looks worse than almost every current Wii game on the market. It even looks worse than some last-gen games. The game also suffers from other minor graphical issues, like clipping and jagged edges, even in instances where you're only facing a few zombies at a time, making it appear that more work was spent making the game run on the Wii, and not enough making sure that it ran well. Sure, Capcom had to take hundreds of zombies off the screen to make the game work with the Wii's engine, but I can't help but feel that with how drastic the game's structure is, and with how bad the graphics look, it wouldn't have been better to just pony up some extra cash and re-design it for the Wii. For example, the game is mostly linear, yet there are still random side rooms you can enter that serve no purpose to the story. Cut those out, give us more zombies, and make the game look (and run) better!

Still, if you ignore the Xbox 360 version and judge this game on its own, it's not quite as bad as pre-release hype built it up to be. Could it have been better? Easily. An unoptimized engine, extremely easy boss fights, and bad visuals (in and out of cutscenes) bring it down several notches, but still – it's a game about killing zombies. If you enjoy that, own a Wii, and have never played Dead Rising for the 360, Chop Till You Drop will give you at least a few solid days of fun. On the other hand, if you own the original Dead Rising you're probably better off ignoring this one. Even zombies can't save it from being judged against its much better ancestor, and that's one fight it will never win.
