Welcome to the Pitt, which may or may not be Pittsburgh. Ok, so it's totally Pittsburgh. Here you can experience all of the joys of the Steel City as you're thrust into the topsy turvy world of slavers, slaving and being a slave.
So, how is the DLC? Well, unlike the linear experience that Operation Anchorage was, the Pitt is more of a traditional Fallout 3 experience. There are quests to undertake, choices to make and even a full fledge collection quest. Oh boy. Love collection quests. Those that bristled at the hand-holding in Anchorage will feel more at home here in Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, this freedom comes at a cost, namely that the gear obtained at the end of Anchorage is better than the gear you'll find here. Oh sure, the Auto Axe is a hoot, I mean, who doesn't like bearing down on someone with spinning blades of death, but they degrade fairly quickly and as they're only found in the Pitt, repairing them yourself can be tough. The other new weapon is the Infiltrator, a scoped, suppressed assault rifle. As guns go, it ain't bad, but damage wise, it does less than a well maintained assault rifle. There's some power armor to be had, but there was power armor at the end of Anchorage too, and none of the weapons available can hold a candle to the Gauss Rifle.
Still, it's not a bad expansion pack, even with the various freezing issues and those that loved the gray moral areas of Fallout 3 will be right at home here. The same caveats as with Anchorage apply, namely that you'll get a lot more out of the expansion pack if you either haven't reached the level cap, or you wait until the cap is raised with the Broken Steel DLC. For those looking for achievements, there are a few terminals to hack, not many locks to pick, but a whole bunch of people to take out. There are also four achievements specific to the Pitt DLC, which is why we're here.
When you travel to the Pitt, you'll have all of your gear until you get into the Pitt proper at which point it will be removed from your person. You'll get your gear before the last bit of fireworks starts though, so you'll still want to bring your favorite weapons with you, just make sure you leave enough room in your inventory for all of the goodies you'll find in the Pitt. Once you've finished all of the quests in the Pitt, you can come and go as you please if you find multiple trips necessary for transporting your plunder. There's no time like the present, so let's get started.
Into the Pitt - 20 pts
Once you start up a new game after you've installed the DLC, you'll have to move between areas to trigger the message that you've received a new distress signal on your radio. Any transition that requires a loading screen should do it. The radio signal is located at the very north edge of the map, pretty much smack in between Oasis and Fort Constantine. You can either fast travel to Oasis and deal with navigating the annoying rock paths, or fast travel to Fort Constantine and run the risk of being dropped smack dab in a robot tussle. Either way, head to the signal.
Once you get to where the signal is originating you'll find Wernher in a fight with some Pitt Raiders. Help him kill the raiders, or don't, as Wernher can't die. Talk to Wernher and he'll tell you that he needs your help with his slave revolt at the Pitt, and with obtaining a cure for the mutations that are affecting the Pitt's residents. He'll also tell you that if you obtain a slave outfit you can successfully infiltrate the Pitt. A slave outfit is not necessary, but either way you'll have to head over to the nearby slavers. They won't be too happy with you, so kill them all. If you want a slave outfit, once you've killed all of the slavers, either lift the slave pen key off of a dead slaver or pick the lock. Either way, take the dead slave's clothes or talk to the slave in the back and force him to give him his clothes.
Once you have the outfit you can either go and find Wernher or sleep on a slaver mattress for an hour. If you take the nap, he'll show up right after you wake up and tell you to meet him at the tunnel to the Pitt, which is conveniently right behind you. Enter the tunnel and you'll see a handcar. Approach it, press A and head to the Pitt. Keep in mind that once you head into the Pitt, you can't leave until the main quests are finished, so make sure you have all the clean underwear you'll need before leaving. Followers cannot go with you into the Pitt and will return to their "home" location to wait for you until you return to the Capital Wastelands.
