Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar

Stardock proves once again that listening to your userbase and implementing reasonable ideas from feedback is a sure way to create something worthwhile. Dark Avatar, the first expansion to the company's award winning 4X (or 5X if you prefer) turn-based strategy game, Galactic Civilizations II, delivers on everything it promised. Can you imagine that? Consider for a moment how many games these days that actually meet or exceed their bullet list of announced features. Not very many sadly, but Dark Avatar does it. It all goes back to listening to fans and taking whatever extra development time is needed to make sure the product you are releasing is worth it at the end of the day. Stardock has earned the trust of its fans and proven that small independent companies with the heart and dedication can do anything.

To quote William Abner's excellent review, "Dark Avatar is a nearly flawless expansion to an already great game. Fans of GalCiv II simply need to own it as it makes playing the original somehow seem stale. Stardock has proven yet again that turn-based gaming isn’t dead – good design is still good design."

Do we really need to say anything more? For extending an already wonderful franchise and doing it with plenty of polish and style, Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar earns the right to be named GameShark's Game of the Week!
