Mr. Binky’s Random Stuff: License Acquisitions!
Mr. Binky sits down with EA’s Director of License Acquisitions.
Date: Tuesday, January 22, 2008
Author: Brandon Cackowski-Schnell

SW: Why the Algonquin Thunder of course!

GS: The Algonquin Thunder? Is that a Canadian team?

SW: Of course. Where else would it be from?

GS: Never mind. The current perception is that EA is unable to compete creatively with other publishers, so instead they buy the licenses, thereby preventing other publishers from creating competing products.

SW: That seems about right.

GS: So you admit it? But what about competition in the marketplace? How do you expect innovation to thrive if there’s no competition?

SW: Innovation is for people that can’t afford to buy off their competition. And it’s not like we can tie the members of other companies to the railroad tracks to get them to back off. Not any more that is.

GS: So what other licenses do you plan on “serving” in the future?

SW: I’m glad you asked! Why just this week we finished up work to secure the rights to Hopscotch.

GS: Hopscotch? Who holds the license to Hopscotch?
