Amazing combat aside, those interested should note that if you’re the kind of person who doesn’t know how many Centauri it takes to screw in a lightbulb (as in, not a fan of the Babylon 5 TV series), you probably won’t be able to appreciate the full extent of this mod’s beauty. Much of the missions developed for the mod are focused on being able to participate in some of the plot-changing battles from the series and see them from different angles (at least, as interpreted by the fans). But this really shouldn’t come as a revelation to anybody reading this article, and for those who are fans, there is plenty to enjoy with TBP.
Ultimately, if you’ve been looking for a quick and easy way to see some of the amazing updates that have been done to the Freespace 2 engine since its release in 1999 without having to juggle the daunting number of beta builds and cross-referenced downloads posted as part of the still-developing “Source Code Project” updates, then The Babylon Project is definitely the way to do it. Just make sure to check out some of the custom campaigns that have been released so that you can get the fullest experience – I particularly recommend
Fortune Hunters
for the Crimson Skies-styled mercenary feel it brings to the Babylon 5 universe.
