We finish our discussion with Patrick Pligersdorffer, CEO of Cyanide Studio as he answers questions sent directly from the Blood Bowl community.

What is the minimum and maximum number of participants that can play in a private league?

24 is the maximum. Minimum is 4 at the moment.

Do multiplayer leagues have to have all human owners? Can the AI be assigned a team?

Yes, you can only have human-owned teams in online league, no AI-controlled teams. This is why we implemented a large array of league sizes and types. Adding AI-controlled teams is one of the features that did not make the cut. Especially if we wanted to avoid people easily cheating in online leagues against AI-controlled opponents.

Is there a way to watch or be a spectator for other people’s games in your league? If we all want to watch the big cup final can we see it live or via a replay?

No, there is spectator mode at the moment. We implemented it in Chaos League and realized that very few people used it. So it became a minor feature that did not make the cut when we had to choose between two of them. It’s something that we hope to add in a patch later on. However, it is possible to watch the replays of games. So you will be able to watch and analyze the best games.

One of my favorite aspects of Blood Bowl besides the gameplay itself is the sense of history that is in the rulebooks. Will the game do the same for our leagues? Is there a Hall of Fame or a list of past league and tournament champs so we can look back and remember those players and teams?

Yes. We track a certain number of achievements: past champions, best players and teams in several statistical categories (number of touchdowns, number of kills, etc.)

Will Cyanide be hosting any official online tournaments?

So far, there is a standard ladder with regular resets. As for organizing an official league, it’s being discussed. It will mostly depend on the success of the game online. We’d love to do it but we can’t really commit to it yet.

Platform Specific Questions:

Will there be any differences between the Xbox 360 and the PC versions, features wise?

The turn-based modes will be identical. However the real-time modes will differ. The controls are different so we had to make changes to make it more playable. The core gameplay will remain, especially the use of the “concentration skill” (kind of like the active pause in some games). It remains a tactical game; it is NOT a sport game and should not be viewed as such. The online possibilities will also differ because of the specific possibilities of the Xbox Live, what we are allowed to do or not.
