Yesterday I sat in on a developer conference call for NBA 2K12 with producer Erick Boenisch and senior gameplay designer Mike Wang.

The discussion moved into several areas of the upcoming game from the new and (heavily) expanded NBA's Greatest feature (we’re talking 34 historical teams), the additions to the My Player feature, AI improvements for CPU players, etc.

2K has, according to Boenisch and Wang, done a lot of work with the post-game, included a mini game for better on the ball defense, made it easier to target players when passing, and completely recoded the playcalling mechanics.

There’s a new feature this year in the form of a fully online Association Mode with up to 30 human teams (although the CPU can take over non-human controlled teams). This was announced for the first time on this conference call.

The call is about one hour long and you can listen to it in its entirety by downloading the MP3 file here. We’ll have a full review of NBA 2K12 soon.
