Developing games with an emphasis on non-linearity is often considered a difficult task. An end reward of this design complexity is the attractive perception of freedom it creates for many players. One title falling squarely into this category is Arcatera, The Dark Brotherhood, an adventure game with RPG elements from German developer Westka Entertainment and publisher Ubi Soft. In addition to its non-linear architecture, Arcatera sports a sophisticated artificial intelligence system, numerous cutscenes and an involved dialogue system. Together, these aspects form the basis for a dynamic, evolving world to explore, which is enhanced by high replayability.
