North European Campaign, Ark Overview

The Northern Europe Campaign

ETQW’s Northern Europe Campaign consists of three maps - Ark, Quarry and Salvage - which explore some of the key turning points in the battles occurring in the North European Theatre of Operations.

The action ranges from Norway to Yorkshire to Lapland, and includes a GDF attempt to develop a biological weapon, the battle for a crashed Strogg ship, and the GDF’s capture of vital Strogg technology.

Ark Map Synopsis

Location: Sogn og Fjordane county, Vestlandet, Norway

Date: March, 2066

Theme: Arctic

The remote GDF research station known as The Ark has made a breakthrough in reverse-engineering Strogg biotechnology. The Strogg must destroy the lab equipment in the underground laboratory before their secrets are made public.

Tactical Overview

Secluded from attention deep within the Arctic circle in an icy fjord lies the high-security research and development facility known as The Ark. A GDF research team has taken over the private facility, using its cryo-protectant storage of multi-species stem cells and cutting-edge research equipment to analyse the Strogg invaders’ biotechnology and create a bio-contaminant which the GDF could use to sabotage Strogg Stroyent supplies. The Ark lab has bred a viral strain suitably lethal to Strogg but relatively harmless to humans. However, the Strogg have learned of the Ark’s success and have descended to destroy the research samples.

Previous Strogg attempts to destroy the Ark from orbit have failed – the underground research laboratory is built into solid rock below the Ark’s Biodomes and is immune to conventional bombardment. The Strogg Nexus has thus dispatched a Strogg task force to assault the Ark with a Mining Laser, melting the Biodome doors from the side, and creating a route into the research laboratory through which the Strogg force can assault and destroy the lab equipment.

( A detailed map with map keys can be found here )

The Strogg are attacking a GDF research lab hidden beneath Biodomes in an arctic fjord. First, Strogg Aggressors must attach and arm explosives on the Jamming Tower generator (1). Then a Mining Laser will be deployed on the central islet. Strogg Constructors must then construct the Mining Laser (2) before it can fire to destroy the Biodome doors and open a route to the research labs. Strogg Aggressors must then assault the laboratory beneath the Biodomes, attach and arm explosives on the Lab Materials, and destroy them (3).

The GDF must delay the Strogg by defending each objective for as long as possible, until the time limit is reached. Only the GDF Engineer can disarm the Strogg explosives.

Owing to the lack of an overarching storyline, Mount & Blade is a game that’s difficult to get into at first. If you can get past the growing pains, however, it offers a compelling, dynamic world that you are free to explore at your leisure and a combat model that is both frenetic and addicting.
