Many people couldn't have been happier about Team Fortress 2's switch to a free-to-play model, except for the veterans that is. A new mod that appeared on
Allied Modders
allows server-hosts to block players without a premium edition of the game. Obviously,
a few people
were bound to get offended.
The mod only affects player-owned servers that it is installed on, so it is a shady line of ethics to regulate. Plus, any player who spends even $1 in the store is considered a Premium member.
From a personal standpoint, I can understand the why the veterans are upset. Many have spent years perfecting there skills. Not only do they want teammates who can support them, but also, opposition that can provide a true challenge. They are not trying to ban all F2P players, but rather, to keep a place for themselves to play at a higher skill level.
Perhaps there is a better question to ask here: why are there not better options in place to divide players of varying skills to begin with?
