You really do not waste any time with the game strategy because everything flows quickly, with good battle mechanics. You will have backfire automatically if units are in range as well, giving a few of true combat. The main concept behind the game is there is no revolutions or drastic changes to the TBS genre, and they are just trying to create the perfect turn based game. They are looking for a solid game, with keeping things simple involving standard units, with no major battle creations.
This game has all ready been run over with a fine toothcomb, as there are many variations and nice little touches. On example of this is in evening battles there are things like lights coming off the vehicles to illuminate the way. The vehicles / units can be generalized for refueling / re-supplying units so that one can keep stocked and ready to rock. There are some structures used for defenses as well, to keep your units well protected. The main great thing is that over the last 8 years they have gained the experience to understand what the best elements of a TBS (Turn Based Strategy) are and they use that to bring them together for the ultimate experience.
Furthering with this notion, along with the other things is the revolving camera views. There are many changing camera angles based upon where the units are positioned. They float beautifully, and they always come up unique from the previous one, which makes it feel more like a movie. They also zoom back and forth, based upon where you are getting attacked from, or doing the attacks when it is of a major event. The camera will always be unique for the place you are getting attacked from, which adds to the battle drama.
The diversity of the units is astounding as well, and each of their affects are tied into this. The races rotate from the Land of the Fathers, Khonties, Barbarians, and Island Empire. One of the little things for one of the races is there is a thing like brainwasher that increases the unit’s strengths within the radius. With the units fighting outside of this range, they become disorientated, and unable to do their job as efficiently as they normally should. This leads to the strategic placing of your units to keep them optimized.
In the end… The main drive is to make just a general solid experience. Units are similar to either WWII or sci-fi. The game was financed generously, so time was taken to make sure it was done right. It will be thoroughly tested to ensure that the game is shipped out properly leading to this game ending up very polished. You may expect this game to be out in Q1 of next year.
Disciples 3.
It is quite similar to D2, dealing with medieval fantasy types. Akella acquired the license about a year ago, and since then they have continued running with the ball. It absorbs the previous Disciples games and uses them to create a better experience, improving it on every level, and the Jagged Line series dips their line in here. All the new content was also passed through the original creator to ensure that it stays true to their dream, before this game is released.
There is a beautiful interface to play with, involving quite a few commands to keep the pace furious. When it comes to magic, the center of your spells will come from magical cards that you may find along your journey. These may be just from adventuring through the world, or purchasing them from their store. The best part of the game is that everything has moved into 3D, and there are a lot of RPG features in this turn-based game. The generator looks like it is easy to create a lot of the environments included XYZ axis for each item. Moving onto the smaller things, equipment will be shown on units as you change them. There are 3D buildings to create including things like castles as well.
They have stressed that there must be beautiful in game art for the main units and spells, not just little icons. There are 3 playable races, Humans (the Empire), Demons (Legions of the Damned), and Noble Elves. Each of the races has their own plans, which will lead to interesting arcs. There are loads of equipment, and status screens for the characters, leading to a hardcore RPG feeling. Also there are many different ways to level your characters, and make them grow. Finally many advanced options for those who are ready for the next level, over the previous game, to tailor the system to your style.
It currently has no set release date, but it is shaping up to be a fantastic looking game.
Final Thoughts
In the end over the hour plus interview that I had with them, they continued to drive the point home that they are one of the best out there. It was my honour to be able to sit down with them, and allow them to show me their games, because they always have something nice to show off to the world. These future hits are just a few of them, and for them the sky is the limit. - Gordon Edward.
